District Matters
An Important Lesson
Steven Benvenisti, Esq. will present "The Most Significant Case of My Entire Career: Lessons on the Harmful Effects of Drunk Driving" on Thursday, October 24, at 7 p.m. in the Livingston High School auditorium. This program is for LPS students in grades seven to 12 and their parents/guardians.

Student Matters
Congratulations to the 21 students were inducted into the National Honor Society at Livingston High School on Friday, October 11! Inductees include Gracie Bent, Karin Berger, Kenneth Ding, Sylvia Ferreira, Krish Govind, Harrison Greenwald, William Han, Julia Hou, Sydney Jacobsen, Rachel Kurtz, Mackenzie Lee, Gene Liu, Karina Malhotra, Evan Marcus, Eden Quan, Gabrielle Romano, David Samaan, Stephanie Sicurello, Brian Weber, Jared Wolf and Patrick Zotti.
The Story Pirates visited Riker Hill for an assembly where they performed a story written by Jayden Lo, John Conroy, Zach Weinberg, third graders in Jessica Ayars’ class. The group aims to promote literacy and creativity by performing stories created by the students.
Fifth graders at Collins School participated in team building activities! Shown working on the Marshmallow Tower Challenge, during which they attempted to build a structure with marshmallows and uncooked spaghetti, are Elianna Sparkman, Emma LaBrunda, Adreanna Cwik, Marisa Kay and Logan Gibbs.
Fifth grader Ella Shansky, a member of Burnet Hill School’s safety patrol, takes a moment to share artwork with kindergartner Mabel Moss. The patrols provide assistance in creating a safe school environment.
Students at MPE had a beautiful day for their annual Walk-A-Thon where they walked to raise money for Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Shown are Vivann Ghandi, Luke Jiang, Manuel Silva, Teddy Bernstein, William Sun, Andrew Littman and Jordan Kanter. 
Harrison School’s “Hero Groups” recently met for the first time this school year. The goal of the groups is to create a safe environment to foster positive relationships, flexible thinking and problem solving, while allowing students to grow in responsibility, empathy and kindness. During the first session, students shared what makes them smile, read an inspirational book, and worked together to create slime! Shown are first grader Charisma Thomas and fifth grader Shreya Joseph.

The Dangers of Vaping
Judith Persichilli, NJ's Acting Commissioner of Health and chair of the Governor's Electronic Smoking Device Task Force has shared important resources from a new campaign that aims to raise awareness about the dangers of electronic smoking devices/vaping.
Coffee and Conversation
In an effort to get to know the Livingston community better, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Matt Block, will be holding four “Coffee with the Superintendent” programs this year. The “Coffee with the Superintendent” programs will provide a forum to inform people about the great things happening within our schools, and for informal conversation with parents and guardians regarding their experiences with and hopes for LPS. Bring your questions, thoughts, and a favorite warm beverage. All are welcome!

Once a year for during the month of October, The Friends of the Livingston Public Library turn the Library program room into a used book wonderland, where you can purchase popular used titles at bargain prices. BookFEST will run from Thursday, October 24, 2019 until Sunday, October 27, 2019. Read a Message From the Director of the library.

Playground Aides Needed
Livingston Public Schools is looking to hire early arrival and lunch time playground aids. Do you have a few hours to spare at the beginning or in the middle of the day? Would you enjoy being responsible for the well-being of our students before school in the morning and during their lunch hour? Successful candidates will provide supervision of PreK-5 students both in the school and on the playground. Starting salary begins at $15.50/hour. Substitute Nurses
Livingston Public Schools is seeking substitute school nurses. Applicants must hold current license issued by the NJ Board of Nursing as a professional registered nurse (RN) and possess or be eligible for a Substitute Nurse Certificate. CPR/AED certification is required ($200/day). Interested candidates should contact Carolyn Ross at cross@livingston.org

Substitute Teachers
Livingston Public Schools is seeking substitute teachers ($100/day). Applicants must either possess certification as a teacher in New Jersey or a substitute certificate.
