In his
December 13, 2019 Technology Update, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew J. Block announced that beginning this month, access to the Gradebook Tab in
Genesis will be disabled on school days only from 7:30am-3:00pm for Livingston High School and 7:30am-3:30pm at Heritage and Mount Pleasant Middle Schools.
"We regularly discuss supporting the social and emotional needs of our students. It has become apparent over the past weeks that that having 24-hour access to grades is neither necessary nor in our students’ best interest," wrote Dr. Block. "We will plan to re-evaluate this procedure at some point this spring using student, parent, and staff surveys. At that time, we will reflect on the information gathered and report to the community. During the times that the Gradebook Tab is inaccessible, all other aspects of Genesis will still be available. The Gradebook Tab will be active outside the school day, as well as on weekends and vacations."

Through Course Preview Day, LHS freshmen, sophomores, and juniors had the opportunity to learn valuable information about courses they are interested in taking during the 2020-2021 school year before scheduling begins in February! During the program, students met with teachers of elective, CP, Honors, and AP courses who gave an overview of their course, outlined course expectations, and provided examples of class assignments and student work. Through these informative sessions, students gained insight to help them make informed decisions for their upcoming scheduling choices.
"I really liked it," said junior Cassie Borino, a student who is new to the district this year. She noted that the program gave her the opportunity to learn about courses that she didn't know existed and provided a good outline of what to expect next year.
"We believe that Course Preview Day is one more way to enhance our commitment to helping our students make strong, challenging, and balanced choices as they map out their careers at LHS," stated Assistant Principal Mary Kate Pretto and Director of School Counseling Sinead Crews.
