WATCH OUT FOR POPULAR DONATION SITES
ACTBLUE is the top Democratic fund-raising platform that is now being investigated for allegedly skirting campaign laws without vetting the donors, fraud, and money-laundering. Several states have also been looking at ACTBlue allegedely for funneling funds for protests and vandalism around the country. Their primary purpose is to collect donations for candidates from Federal all the way down to the local political positions. James O’Keefe of Project Veritas claimed the same donors’ names were used hundreds of times to hide the true origin of the funds. Of course, all this is speculation and yet to be proven.
Its Republican counterpart is WINRed who defaults your intended one-time donation on their site to a MONTHLY donation. If you fail to uncheck the “monthly” box, you may be charged repeatedly until you notice it on your credit card bill and have to contact them to discontinue it. Good luck in trying to get them to refund you for the additional months you did not intend to donate. I believe this is deceitful, at best. I am not suggesting not donating, just be careful when you do because not everyone has your best interest at heart.
I have adopted my OWN donation practice. I go directly to the website of the organization/person to whom I want to donate and process my donation on their site. This way you avoid the “middle man”, who will do anything to pad their pockets, and you COULD avoid numerous unintended donations.
