WE ARE FINALLY GOING TO SEE THE ROUND-ABOUT ON HWY 5 @ Dorsett Shoals Rd & Banks Mill Rd & Pool Rd COME TO FUITION
The Georgia DOT has now finished the right-of-way acquisition for this project (PI0009836) and construction is NOW slated for the second quarter of 2026. This is music to many of us as this project started well over 20 years ago. I remember the first year I was elected District 4 Commissioner back when Tom Worthan was Chair, we hosted several representatives with GDot to demonstrate to them how dangerous an intersection this was.
Mrs. Anna Cobb (now in her 90’s) has written to them and called them about the status of this project for over 20 years. She has a 4- inch stack of correspondence to prove it. After my election, I joined her in pushing them to act on the project. However, every time I called to speak to the project manager, there was always a new one in place. The State had a Safety fund grant allocated for it, which they had to renew after 10 years of delay.
Nevertheless, I have been assured by the Director of our DOT that the State has told him the same thing they told me.. For the safety of everyone living in that area, we should see some dirt moved next spring. Thank God for answered prayers!
