MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL
HELENA LEVINE
This morning, I watched first-graders beam with excitement when they received their first Siddurim (prayer books). With great pride, each of these young learners eagerly embraced their new prayer books and demonstrated the poise and decorum that we emulate as core values. What a moving presentation! Special thanks to our first-grade educators who made the program a testament to our mission, and to Morah Yael Pollak and Morah Yafit Rozenberg for the guidance and leadership that culminated in a ceremony that was nothing short of perfect.

On Sunday, I look forward to presenting our Class of 2017 seniors with their High School diplomas as the culmination of 12 years of hard work and dedication.

Being witness to a true love of learning spanning all ages is such a wonderful reminder of why I am so honored to serve as Head of School - a role I truly cherish. I see our EDUCATION OF EXTRAORDINARY POWER AND PURPOSE come to life over and over, throughout ALL grades, and throughout countless lifetime milestones. What an honor!

Our school educates the future leaders of our world. Soon heading off to top ranked colleges and

universities throughout the world, or study abroad, Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School seniors, 13 of whom are "lifers" (students who have been at DKJA since Kindergarten) are sure to blaze a path of excellence. Included in the impressive college acceptances are three Ivy League institutions of higher learning. Seniors were recognized for outstanding achievements today during a special Awards Ceremony and Rose Presentation. For a complete list of the awards,   please click here. Kol HaKavod.

No matter where their path leads them following the processional across the stage in Zinman Hall on Sunday afternoon, we could not be more proud of our graduates, and how each and every one of them has succeeded in finding the best match for their future endeavors.

Providing an environment where our students can excel in their strengths is one of the "values added" that makes DKJA so special. Whether it's a passion for science, technology, engineering, the arts, math, athletics, Hebrew, Judaic studies or any other unique area of focus, DKJA strives to provide ways in which students can excel. Please take a moment to read through this issue of the HaShavua to see how DKJA has shined. You will be impressed!

THE ARTS AT DKJA - WHAT A WEEK!

It's Been A Great Week Of Accomplishments For The Arts At DKJA!

HONORS & AWARDS
Ashley Klein
, a junior at Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School, recently placed first in the Congressional Institute art competition in Congresswoman Lois Frankel's district. According to the Congressional Institute website, each spring, the organization sponsors a nationwide High School visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative's office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol. Ashley's painting, titled Late Afternoon, is part of a series of 12 canvases that she completed for her Advanced Placement art class portfolio this year. It was exhibited on Friday, May 5, 2017 in the Ocean breeze room at Old School Square in Delray Beach.

"Often, when you read the news or hear about Israel, it seems characterized by negativity, violence, and gory images. In reality, Israel is full of beautiful light that brings happiness to all who experience it. Israelis don't live in fear, they know that everything is going to be okay. The quality of light as evidenced in the work includes long-cast shadows. My goal as an artist is to shed light and show the positive side of Israel in all of its beauty," expressed Ashley when describing her inspiration.

"All of our AP art students have put in an incredible amount of work, effort and time. Mazal tov Ashley on this well-deserved honor!! I can't wait to see how her portfolio will look by the end of next year," said Rosenblatt High School Dept. Chair of the Arts Mrs. Anita Schwartz.

ARTS SUITE DEDICATION
On Tuesday, a special dedication and ribbon cutting was held for the newly renovated Arts Suite. The ceremony recognized DKJA's support of the arts, the amazing Meet the Masters Program and the invaluable volunteers and educators that make DKJA so special. The new Art Suite was dedicated in honor of Middle School Art Teacher Mrs. Carol Routman by Elissa and Bruce Simberg. A mezzuzah hanging conducted by Rabbi in Residence Baruch Plotkin, with assistance from Lower and Middle School students, and presentations to the volunteers and educators in the Meet the Masters Program, also took place.
DKJA STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE AT NATIONAL BIBLE QUIZ COMPETITION IN NEW YORK CITY

Congratulations to DKJA students Sarah Louis and Eden Richman for outstanding achievements at the National Bible Quiz section of the International Bible Quiz/Chidon Hatanach in New York City on May 14th. Eighth-grader Sarah Louis placed second in her division (8th - 11th Grade), and seventh-grader Eden Richman placed third in her division (6th - 7th Grade).

Three years ago, as a way of promoting Jewish life and learning, Middle School Dean of Jewish Life and Judaics teacher Mrs. Miriam Engel introduced this unique program to engage students in this area of study outside of the formal classroom. Students meet weekly with Mrs. Engel, starting at the beginning of the school year. They also prepare many hours on their own. This year, out of 400 student s nationwide who entered in the International Bible Quiz, DKJA was well represented, with six students invited to participate in Nationals.

In addition to Sarah and Eden, sixth-grader Noam Goodman competed in Nationals. Seventh-graders Lea Toledano, Aaron Bookstein and Dori Baron also competed as part of DKJA's team at the state level.

"With the holiday of Shavuot around the corner, it is inspiring to have students whose thirst for Jewish knowledge, has contributed to this phenomenal academic achievement," said Mrs. Engel.
