We are delighted to share the results from an excellent year for DKT. In 2019 we experienced record-breaking growth after providing 47.8 million Couple Years Protection (CYPs), a 7% growth over 2018. We sold products, provided services, and supported public institutions and NGOs in 57 countries around the world, delivering health impact to an expanding area from our regional programs in West Africa, South America, Central America, and North Africa & Middle East. DKT also trained some 66,500 health service providers over the course of the year. For a list of highlights in sales for the year, see our full list at the bottom of this newsletter. Based on the MSI Health Impact Calculator, our products and services averted an estimated 7.8 million pregnancies, 35,000 maternal deaths, 56,000 infant deaths, and 10 million unsafe abortions. See the breakdown of our estimated results by country here.

We are also pleased to share the breakdown of DKT’s estimated contribution to Contraceptive Prevalence (CPR) by country. While our more established programs continue to contribute large amounts to CPR, our newest programs have also seen success. For example, in Liberia and Guinea-Bissau we estimate that DKT products contributed a significant percentage of CPR in 2019, highlighting DKT’s ability to be a major provider of protection against unintended pregnancy. In 2019, DKT sold or provided:

·       806.7 million male and female condoms

·       92.9 million oral contraceptives

·       13.2 million emergency contraceptives

·       3.6 million IUDs and hormonal IUS’

·       1.8 million contraceptive implants

·       30.4 million injectable contraceptives

·       2 million suppositories and foaming tablets

·       4.2 million medical abortion combipacks

·       19.6 million misoprostol tablets

·       222,000 Manual Vacuum Aspirators (MVAs)

·       1.8 million cannulae

In DKT DRC, The Batela Lobi Na Yo program has currently registered more than 140 young ambassadors scattered throughout the provinces to organize one-on-one counseling, focus groups, and community meetings, and school meetings to educate people on FP methods.
