DLA WAY- JANUARY NEWSLETTER

PARENT MOMENT:
NEW YEAR PARENT RESOLUTIONS

Improve Your Routines
Take a look at your morning, after-school, and bedtime routines. Are your kids not dressed on time, refusing to brush their teeth, or forgetting their homework?
It might make sense to work together as a family to implement some improved methods.
Come up with new routines as a family unit. Then post the routines in strategic places so your kids won’t forget, and you won’t have to remind them.
Get Everyone To Pitch In
Resolve that this year is the last year you shoulder the burden of housework alone! Each of your kids should be required to shoulder some age-appropriate, meaningful chores that contribute to the family’s daily life. Hold a family meeting to make a list of all the jobs that must be done weekly and decide how to divide the workload. Not only do you get some help, your kids learn valuable lessons about teamwork and accountability.

Slow Down
Some of the most difficult moments of parenting are the transitions. The times we are trying to get kids to put their shoes and socks on to get out the door.
Some of this can’t be avoided, but there are times we create rushed transitions by over-scheduling ourselves. It may make sense to resolve to schedule fewer after-school activities and social engagements this year.
Dropping tasks from your to-do list each day can make family life more calm and enjoyable all around.

Message from the Principal

Happy New Year to all! The DLA team is excited to get back to teaching and learning. We really missed our soaring eagles! Remote learning is in full swing so make sure your child joins Google Classroom every day at 8:00am, attends live classes, completes their assignments online, and goes to specials classes. We will be back on the hybrid schedule starting January 19 with Section 1 students attending in person Mondays-Tuesdays and Section 2 students attending Wednesdays-Fridays.

Mark your calendar for 2nd quarter conferences next week, January 11-15. We are conducting conferences remotely via video calls and phone calls. Contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time. At the conference you will receive your child’s report card and review their schedule and daily expectations for hybrid instruction during 3rd quarter.

Before winter break, 3rd-8th grade students took their end of quarter exams in reading and math. Due to their focused attention, class participation, and hard reading proficiency increased by 10% and math proficiency increased 6%. We are on the way to hitting our end of year goals. K-3 students will take the mid-year growth assessments in reading and math when we return to hybrid learning between January 19-29.

The DLA Team and Family is looking forward to a productive and prosperous 2021.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Asinjo, Principal
