Program Announcement
EXCITE Transformation for Libraries
Congratulations to EXCITE Cohort 2 !

The Connecticut State Library, Division of Library Development and our partner Innovation Builders are very pleased to announce the library teams selected to participate in Cohort 2 of the IMLS Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program CSL grant project: "EXCITE Transformation for Libraries."

We received many creative application videos, it was a challenge to whittle it down to 6 teams, but we are very pleased with the diverse representation of libraries from across the Eastern United States that will be embarking on the EXCITE experience in September 2018. Cohort 2 sessions will take place at the Cranston Public Library in Rhode Island.

Cohort 2 Teams:
  • Baltimore County Public Library, MD
  • Bryant University Library, RI
  • Cranston Public Library, RI
  • East Hartford Public Library, CT
  • UMass Medical School Library, MA
  • Westerly Public Library, RI

For more information on the project please visit our libguide: https://libguides.ctstatelibrary.org/dld/EXCITE or contact Dawn La Valle at [email protected]  or 860.757.6665.

requestIT CT Update

We added a couple of The Do’s and Don’ts of requestIT CT sessions. The next three sessions are taking place on Friday, July 13 at Pomfret Public Library Wednesday, August 8 at Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton ; and Monday, September 17 at Goshen Public Library . (The links will take you to a page where you can register for the session.) We are working on an October date for the Public Library of New London.

The Do’s and Don’ts of requestIT CT session is for those who have been trained on and are currently using requestIT CT. Steve Cauffman will review the FulfILLment system and updating process, show some of the newer features, and talk about ILL workflow. The session will include demonstrations and will not be hands on like the requestIT training sessions.

Development Update

The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) has launched its Open Bookshelf with more than 1,000 open access titles in it. The Bookshelf has been integrated into the SimplyE app for iOS and Android and so is available to users of those apps. The State Library is pleased to have contributed to the curation of open access titles in the Open Bookshelf and will continue to curate such titles going forward. We will also take up adding commercial content to the Bookshelf in the future.
