EXCITE Kick-Off Tour around the U.S.! First Stop - - New Jersey

The Connecticut State Library, Division of Library Development was awarded additional funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to bring 5 additional three-day EXCITE Bootcamps around the country from June 2019 to February 2020.

We are pleased to be working with the New Jersey State Library to kick off the tour in their state from June 11-13 at the Monroe Township Public Library. Six teams will be participating from:

  • Camden County Library
  • Monroe Township Public Library
  • New Brunswick Public Library
  • New Jersey State Library
  • Newark Public Library
  • Palisades Park Public Library

The Bootcamp tour will continue in the Fall with the following schedule and locations:
September 24-26, 2019 Vermont
October 15-17, 2019 Arkansas
November 13-15, 2019 Minnesota
January 14-16, 2020 New Mexico

LSTA Grant Awards

As approved by the Connecticut State Library Board on May 20, the Connecticut State Library’s Division of Library Development is pleased to announce the following LSTA literacy and planning grant awards. These five grants total $32,307 in funding.
 
1. Danbury Public Library, $7,500
Learn English! Free Classes at the Danbury Library
 
2. Ferguson Library, $7,500
Road to Success starts at the Ferguson Library
 
3. Oxford Public Library, $4,807
Community Technology Access & Training Project
 
4. Russell Library, $7,500
Food as Fuel for Body and Mind: Russell Library’s Charlie Cart Project to Promote Children’s Health Literacy
 
5. Wallingford Public Library, $5,000
Planning = Success: A Strategic Plan for Wallingford Public Library

The State Library has approximately $40,000 in funding still available this year for LSTA planning grants in amounts up to $5,000. Applications for planning grants are accepted on a rolling basis every two months, with the next deadlines on June 24 and August 26. Principal public libraries as well as school, academic, and special libraries are eligible to apply, and libraries must attend an information session before applying. The next information session is scheduled for July 9 in Middletown ( register online ), with additional sessions planned every two months.

eGO Soft launch Continues

With the May 15th release of the SimplyE app, the following Connecticut libraries were put into active eGO production status:

Beacon Falls Public Library
E.C. Scranton Public Library
East Lyme Public Library
Milford Public Library
New Britain Public Library
New Milford Public Library
North Branford Public Library
West Hartford Public Library

Those libraries' staff and patrons were invited to share their thoughts about the service in an online survey, with a conference call focus group to follow later.

reQuestIT Update

Steve Cauffman will be offering another “Do’s and Don’ts of requestIT” session on Friday, June 21 from 10 am to 1 pm at Wilton Library. He will review the FulfILLment system and updating process, show some of the newer features, and talk about ILL workflow. This session is for those who have been trained on and are currently using requestIT CT. For details and to register, visit: https://cslib.libcal.com/event/5401076

We will be billing libraries participating in requestIT CT $350 for Fiscal Year 2020 (July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020). We will be sending out the bills by late July. Please let Stephen Cauffman ( stephen.cauffman@ct.gov ) know by Friday, June 28 if your library plans on dropping out and not participating in requestIT for the coming fiscal year. If we know that you plan on ending participation, we won’t send a bill to your library.
