On June 11^th ULI Washington hosted a panel presentation on the past, present and future of Chevy Chase Lake, the community along Connecticut Avenue in Montgomery County just inside the Beltway. Steve Knight participated along with Just Kennell with Bozzuto Development, Tom Regnell with Chevy Chase Land Company, McClean Quinn with EYA, and Devon Hastie Bozzuto Development as Moderator.

The presentation included a look at the area’s 100+ year history, the Montgomery County Sector Plan governing a mix of uses totaling potentially over 2 million square feet plus a look at the development projects recently completed by EYA and those under construction and planned for the future by Bozzuto and Chevy Chase Land Company.

The Nicholas S. Zeppos Residential College main building completed construction and opened its doors this past month to welcome students eager to return to classes for the fall semester.

Zeppos is the second in a series of four new residential colleges being planned and designed by DMSAS for Vanderbilt University. Sited at the corner of campus at West End Avenue and 25^th Street, this residential college serves as the gateway for visitors entering the University from the west and north. The 260,000 SF building is designed in a collegiate gothic architectural language appropriate to the context of the campus architecture as well as previous and future residential colleges, including E. Bronson Ingram completed by DMSAS in 2018. In addition to housing for undergraduates, faculty, and graduate student advisors, Zeppos offers meeting space and apartments for visiting scholars.

Zeppos will house 340-undergraduate beds, nearly mirroring the capacity of E. Bronson Ingram. The students will be served by a double-height, 2,500 SF grand dining room and an impressive 2,000 SF great room. A series of small breakout spaces and meeting rooms punctuate each residential floor. Inside the 20-story, 310ft tall West End Tower are 22 long-term stay apartments designed to attract and house visiting scholars from around the world. The top floor of the tower houses an exciting executive boardroom which will host important visiting organizations and University leadership meetings. The West End Tower is scheduled to open next summer.

Megan will have a critical role in the achievement of the firm’s goals and corporate vision through identifying and securing new business and enhancing existing relationships. She will develop and execute marketing strategies and initiatives to increase the visibility of our significant experience of broad and diverse body of project types including civic, institutional, cultural, commercial, residential, educational, sports, healthcare, and planning projects. Megan brings nearly two decades of business development, marketing and communications experience in the Architecture and Engineering community to our team. The Waycroft, after nearly 5 years of planning, design and construction is complete and inviting residents to occupy. Located at a prominent intersection in the vibrant Arlington neighborhood of Ballston, this transit-friendly development consists of 491 luxury units of various sizes and configurations, street level retail that includes a Target department store, and below-grade parking. The project creates an appropriate gateway for the Ballston community, linking and transitioning the dense commercial core with the nearby low-scale residential neighborhood. The full-block project is visually broken down into a series of distinct but connected buildings that vary in size, scale, and architectural expression.

The City of Huntsville’s Public Building Authority has retained Robins & Morton as construction manager for the project. Matheny Goldmon, the project’s local architect of record, is coordinating the Construction Document phase for the 8,000-seat capacity venue.

The Parkview is substantially complete and residents now occupy the the units. Some final work was performed on the roofing membrane to ensure watertightness around the rooftop pool.

The 600 space 8^th & Terrell Street Garage (left) was completed in June 2020 and currently operational for hospital staff. The 8^th & Pennsylvania Avenue Garage provides an additional 1,000 parking spaces to the campus and currently has a completed design awaiting construction.  

We are sad to announce that we are taking a break from our annual Gingertown Celebration this year. In the interest of safety, Gingy will be on sabbatical and hopes to return in December 2021! We encourage our past participants to still lend their support and make donations to our charitable partners Children’s National Medical Center, Community of Hope, Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, So Others Might Eat and The Wendt Center for Loss & Healing.

In lieu of our annual Summer Picnic this year, all DMSAS team members were surprised with a delivery to their homes of some fresh, in season fruits and vegetables from 4P Foods ! While we all missed the joining in festivities together, we did enjoy making some fresh healthy meals with our late summer bounties!
