Spartanburg Government Center

Breaks Ground

Spartanburg, SC

Construction of the new Government Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina is officially underway. The Spartanburg Government center is a 200,000-square-foot civic building that will unify local government services under one roof. Located in the heart of downtown, the facility is envisioned as a true “one-stop shop” for residents—bringing together city and county offices, shared council chambers, public meeting spaces, and welcoming indoor and outdoor areas. We look forward to sharing updates as this vision takes shape.

The ICAA Mid-Atlantic Chapter Tour of Chevy

Chase Lake

DMSAS Principals Josh Arcurio and Steve Knight, in partnership with the Institute for Classical Architecture and Arts (ICAA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter, organized a tour of our Chevy Chase Lake project on Saturday March 28th. Attendees included the general public, practicing professionals, and students from Catholic University. Completed in 2023, the first phase of Chevy Chase Lake includes 3 new-construction mid- and high-rise buildings providing over 500 residential apartments and condominiums plus approximately 100,000 SF of ground level retail and restaurant uses. The buildings are grouped around a well-defined neighborhood square. A grand stair connects the neighborhood square to an elevated station for the soon to be completed Purple Line light rail line.

DMSAS Participates in Architecture in the Schools Program

DMSAS Architect George Fillion recently participated in the Architecture in the Schools program, an initiative organized by the District Architecture Center. Architecture in the Schools is a semester-long outreach program that connects architecture professionals with local students to introduce them to the field of architecture and provide hands-on experience with the design process.

George worked with a freshman honors math class at Ron Brown High School. Through hands-on learning, students explored sketching, structural engineering principles, precedent research, and site analysis. The program culminated in a final design-build project: each student designed and constructed a chair capable of supporting their own weight. The students then presented their work in a professional design critique at Hickok Cole.

New Project Photography Highlights Chevy Chase Lake

Late last fall, DMSAS partnered with Steve Hall of Hall Merrick + McCaugherty to capture new photography of Chevy Chase Lake. This additional shoot captures the liveliness of the ground floor retail and neighborhood square two years after the project's completion.
