Change to Vehicle Recording Fees Effective July 1, 2025

The Colorado DMV is informing you of upcoming legislative changes impacting vehicle recording fees.

Effective July 1, 2025, House Bill 24-1269, "Modification of Recording Fees," will go into effect. This bill modifies the fees collected by County Clerk and Recorders.

Specifically for vehicles, please be aware that the fee for filings related to manufactured homes (pursuant to section 38-29-128) and liens/mortgages (pursuant to section 42-6-121) will be a flat $40.

This is a change from the previous fee structure. The date that will determine the filing fee will be the date that the paperwork is stamped as received by the county office.

Please ensure your staff are aware of this change for all relevant transactions filed or recorded on or after July 1, 2025.

Increase in call volume for email/text fraudulent messages

The Department has recently seen an increase in call volume from customers inquiring about receiving text or emails notifying them that they owe a fee or fine. We have recently developed a “Fraud/Scam” webpage for consumer access.

We have also taken steps to notify the public. These actions include:

Additionally, we have front loaded our call center welcome message to include the following language:

"Are you calling about a text message that you received regarding a ticket or license suspension? Please be advised that these are SPAM and Phishing attempts and are not communications from the DMV. Do not open or click on the link provided and delete this message."
