DNREC News: 2022 Delaware State Parks annual pass, surf fishing permit sales delayed
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has announced that the sale of 2022 Delaware State Parks annual passes and surf fishing permits will be delayed due to nationwide supply chain disruptions. Due to this delay, 2021 surf fishing permits will be honored on surf fishing beaches through Jan. 31, 2022. Daily entrance to Delaware State Parks is free through Feb. 28, 2022.

While it is not known when the passes and permits will be available, the DNREC Division of Parks and Recreation expects receipt in early 2022 and will begin sales immediately online, in state park offices and via retail sales agents. Off-peak surf fishing permits will also be made available for sale at that time. Off-peak permits allow anglers to drive-on surf fish during times when Delaware State Park beaches are not at capacity. Gift certificates are not available for these items.

Annual passes and surf fishing permits are usually available for sale between Black Friday and Christmas; however, the manufacturer is awaiting arrival of back-ordered materials needed to create the passes and permits.

Annual passes are a convenient way to access the parks for the entire fee season from March 1 to Nov. 30. Surf fishing permits allow individuals to drive onto designated sections of Delaware State Parks beaches for fishing.

Rep. Gray and Senator Gerald Hocker participated recently in the dedication ceremony for the new Delaware Historical Marker for the Indian Mission School in Millsboro. The school--established by the Nanticoke Indian Tribe--was in operation between the 1920s and 1962. After the Indian Mission School closed, the building became the Nanticoke Indian Center, which is the administrative and cultural center of the Nanticoke Indian Association. Ron--along with Reps. Ruth Briggs King, Rich Collins, and Steve Smyk and Senators Hocker and Brian Pettyjohn--helped to pay for the historical marker, using a portion of their allotted Community Transportation Funds.
News from DelDOT: DelDOT announces "Name That Plow" contest
Dover -- As the winter season approaches, DelDOT is launching its inaugural "Name That Plow" contest for elementary school (K-5) students across the state.

"Our snowplow operators and technicians work hard throughout the winter season to keep our roads clear and equipment running during winter storm events. This is an opportunity for our elementary school students to help us recognize their efforts and see their winning name on one of our trucks for the upcoming winter season," said Secretary of Transportation Nicole Majeski.

Entries will be accepted via email until 8:00pm on Monday, December 13, 2021, at [email protected], and should include the suggested name limited to one to two words, student and teacher's name, and school name.

One winner from each county will be selected and will have a snowplow visit their school for a photo and demonstration of how the plows operate.

DelDOT has more than 300 pieces of snow removal statewide and is responsible for treating and plowing almost 14,000 lane miles of roadway. For more information about DelDOT's winter storm operations visit the DelDOT Snow FAQ webpage.
