📢 🛒 DOCO Market Brings New Culture to “Old” Town

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

DOCO Market creates a space that celebrates the community and brings people together.

The DOCO Market (Downtown Concord Market) will hold their second pop-up shopping experience on April 1st from 12-5pm at Nothing New Quality Threads which is located at Southern Strain Brewing Company’s Concord location at 165 Brumley Avenue. Nothing New is also hosting their first Friday Night Flea on Friday, March 31st from 3-8pm, featuring 10+ of the area’s top vintage and fashion vendors as well as a vast selection of $20 items that you already know and love!

Casey Atwell, a co-founder of DOCO Market and co-owner of Nothing New Quality Threads, said, “the goal of the market is to bring a new culture to an old town.” By bringing a curated selection of vendors to the market, residents of Cabarrus County get to experience small businesses they might not hear of otherwise.

  • “Our mission is to bring together a diverse group of vendors who specialize in unique and authentic goods, food, and experiences. From handcrafted jewelry to locally grown flowers, we have something for everyone.”

Visit our website to preview the list of vendors, learn more about this unique premium vintage clothing store, and hear about two more local CabCo grads who returned home to start their business.

Editor’s Note: Have you noticed the number of feature stories about Cabarrus County graduates who have come back to their hometowns to start businesses? We’re not sure there is any greater compliment to our community than our young people wanting to come back and make their dreams come true by starting new businesses in CabCo. Thanks for bringing your new ideas and creative pursuits back to your hometown and helping all of us thrive!

🎸 J.King Guitar Makes Retail Shop Dream a Reality

This feature article was written by the Cabarrus Economic Development Corporation.

Guitar consignment and repair store sees local entrepreneur fulfilling a dream in a historically musical space.

When you walk past J.King Guitar on the way to the West Ave District retail shops or to a Cannon Ballers game, you can't help but notice his wall of beautiful guitars. Whether you are looking to add a vintage guitar to your collection or buy your first one, you are sure to be impressed by his selection on consignment in his retail store.

  • Owner Jack King posts new acquisitions on his Instagram page, but a visit to the store allows you to experience each guitar in person. In addition to consignment, King offers in house guitar repair service including everything from simple set-ups to more involved jobs like fret work and refinishing.

What makes King’s story special is that after graduating from Northwest Cabarrus High School, he started his business doing guitar repairs in Charlotte because he wasn’t sure there was a music scene in Cabarrus County.

  • After hearing about a program out of downtown Concord to help entrepreneurs gain knowledge on how to open a retail business, he headed home and now has a brick-and-mortar location in downtown Kannapolis right next to Atrium Health Ballpark.

Read the entire article on our website to hear more about Jack’s journey, what he learned, and why his location was the perfect fit.
