April Echo of Erin
Central Ohio's Largest Irish-American Women's Organization
"American by birth, Irish by the grace of God!"

A chara,

April brings warmer weather, longer days, and new beginnings.Easter is celebrated this year on April 20. Those in America celebrate with church services, egg hunts, and candy. In Ireland, Easter week is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ and a remembrance of the Easter Rising which sought to bring about independence from Britain.

A new beginning for Ireland started with the rebellion in 1916 on Easter Monday. Patrick Pearse read the Proclamation of the Irish Republic that day. It is the only proclamation of its era that mentions women equally, beginning “Irishmen and Irishwomen.” Equality is why the Daughters of Erin was established.

To learn more about the Easter Rising of 1916, visit https://www.irishcentral.com/roots/history/ireland-1916-easter-rising-facts for some interesting facts about the movement.

I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting, Sunday, April 13. The Board meeting will start at 12:30 pm so that members can vote in the Shamrock Club elections.

Come early. We will make Easter baskets for foster children at 1 pm, then at 1:30 pm we can enjoy a snack and fellowship with friends before the general membership meeting which starts at 2 pm.

VOLUNTEER PROJECT

Margie Hess here, I’m looking for folks to assist me with making blankets for Saints Alive homeless mission. You don't have to know how to sew!

If you can donate two (2) hours of your time to the cause, that would help tremendously. It involves cutting off the side knit panels and elastic from the mattress pads and then help lay the pad onto the sheet. It would triple how much I am able to do by saving me from walking around the table straightening out the layers.

I am working on this project for a couple hours each morning. The hotel donated over 500 beds worth of linens! The boxes opened during transport, and they could not utilize them. This is a long-term project.

.

So, if you have time and elbow grease, let me know if you want to help, have fun and serve the goals of Saints Alive.

Thank you, Margie Hess

With that in mind, we are asking you to take a critical look at both documents to see if you have any questions, suggested additions or deletions, or any other thoughts about them. We want your feedback! Please send any thoughts to Jean Winters at jmwinters97@hotmail.com. Thank you.
