2026 CHARITY DONATIONS
Thank you for your generous contributions for the Adopt-A-Family. We were able to assist seven families and a total of 17 children. We want to specifically thank all DOE, Shamrock Club, AOH & LAOH members along with anyone else in the Irish community for the gifts purchased and the donations made towards this charity event. Shout out to Jerome Village Dental in Plain City who adopted an entire family and also Grove City Smiles that made a very generous donation and took various gifts off Sign-up Genius. Our success comes from all of you!
The following charities that were nominated by our membership and voted on at our January board meeting. We are paying out close to $5000 to these charities.
Clann na nGael Charity is Charity Selection - Women Affirming Women
https://www.womenaffirmingwomen.org/
Women Affirming Women began with four friends who had the idea of hosting a getaway weekend for unpaid female caregivers, most of whom are also the sole source of financial support for their loved ones, and who are not able to take a break from the demands of caregiving. The first Women’s Respite retreat weekend was held in July 1999 at St. Therese’s Retreat Center in Columbus, and was modeled after a Women’s Respite program hosted by the Franciscan sisters at Stella Niagara, New York.
They became an organization solely of volunteers, funded by grassroots fundraising and donations. St. Stephen’s Community House graciously invited them under its umbrella in order to process donations. Many of their first guests were women involved in the programs at St. Stephens. The group not only affirmed the women they served, but were affirmed and blessed by those same women.
THE STYNCHULA FOUNDATION | https://www.stynchulafoundation.com/
The Stynchula Foundation mission is to help an inclusive world that embraces individuals with autism and the spectrum at every stage of life. Through their advocacy, greenhouse efforts, individual and business partnerships, they strive to enhance the care and well-being of autistic individuals and their families. Our donation allows the individuals to learn and grow their own section of a garden to give produce and flowers to their family and to sell at the Farmers Market.
THINK MAKE LIVE YOUTH | https://www.tmlyouth.org/
Think Make Live Youth is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering youth and young adults (ages 13-24) by providing innovative programs, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities. They provide access to equity, resources and the tools needed for growth, foster success by creating connections and networks and recognize and encourage existing strengths, talents and skills by creating a caring and supportive environment for the community.
THE MJB FOUNDATION | https://www.mjbfoundation.org/
Sharing our JOY with children with challenges. The MJB Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting children with mental and physical challenges primarily in the Central Ohio area. By sponsoring recreational and educational activities, donating physical goods and services, and making monetary contributions we hope to bring Joy to these children.
MISSION GRATITUDE | https://mgffohio.org/
Mission Gratitude Family Friends, a verified 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2023, is dedicated to supporting our deployed service members. Their mission is to create care packages that bring comfort and joy to those who serve our country, remind them that they are never forgotten and that their sacrifice never goes unappreciated. While they have a focus on those from Central Ohio, they accept all sponsored name requests that we receive.
CLEAR CREEKS AND BYWAYS | https://www.clearcreeksandbyways.com/
Clear Creeks and Byways was founded in 2021 by Michael Chapman and Ted Davis. Their mission is to clean local waterways and roadsides, hosting small group cleanups in trouble spots, and larger organized cleaning events. Their goal is to reduce waste that gets into our waterways at its source, promote recycling, and raise awareness on the effects of littering. They are a 100% volunteer non-profit that has removed over 60,000 lbs. of litter, including over 500 tires from our local roadsides and waterways.
JUNIOR CHARITY
The Hous Foundation | https://www.housfoundation.org/
The Hous Foundation empowers children by expanding their access to activities and opportunities. In November 2017, Annie Niewenhous and her children, Isabelle and Parker, lost their lives in an act of domestic violence. Their family established the Hous Foundation to honor, remember, and continue their legacy by removing financial barriers that prevent children from participating in extracurricular and non-school activities.

IRISH LIFE EXPERIENCE
The Irish Life Experience is a 26-day summer program introducing North American students to the characteristics and qualities of Irish life. This year’s program is from June 28-July 23, 2026 and consists of a wide variety of classes, workshops, and tours based in a variety of locations throughout Ireland.
Each year, the Daughters of Erin, along with the Shamrock Club and the Greater Columbus Irish Cultural Foundation, sponsor one student to participate in this program and pays nearly all expenses; airfare from Boston to Ireland, room and board, tuition, group tours, transportation, and activities. The students’ families are only responsible for paying for transportation to and from Columbus and Boston.
The program is open to both male and female students who have graduated from the eighth grade and are entering high school after the program through students graduating high school just before the program begins. To apply for the Irish Experience scholarship, an applicant must know a member of the any Clann na nGael organization in Columbus.
For full details, visit both: https://www.daughtersoferin.org/irish-life-experience.html and https://irishlifeexperience.com/ for full details.
Deadline to apply: Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

CULTURAL UPDATE
10 Irish Phrases to Learn for St. Patrick's Day
For a more culturally informed look at this celebrated holiday, we invite you to take a moment to learn about the Irish language, known as Irish Gaelic or just Gaelic. Gaelic was the dominant language in Ireland until the 19th century, when English became more commonly spoken. Now, only a few small areas in certain Irish counties primarily speak the Irish language. Just over 70,000 people speak Gaelic as their primary language, and UNESCO’s Atlas of World Languages in Danger lists Irish as “definitely endangered.” It's one of the 12 most at-risk languages in Europe. Many experts estimate that Irish will most likely vanish completely over the next 100 years.
There is a bright side: major efforts have been made in recent decades to bring Irish back into the common vernacular. In 2010, the Irish government launched a 20-year strategy to revive Irish that focuses on further integrating it into education and media to nurture future first-language Irish speakers.
