WEEK IN REVIEW

COVER PHOTO:

This cute little dog is named Moby as in Moby Dick. His lesson was kind of an emergency as Moby was being a dick. He nipped at the owner of the Kennel he was to be boarded at! He randomly goes after men without any warning. He came out to meet me in a agitated state. His owners were horrified because I was wearing shorts, so no pant leg to bite. He did well on the outside loose leash walk part of the lesson. He went after me when I brought him inside for the sit stay greeting part of the lesson. He was on leash so I was able to correct him before he got me. Hopefully the correction in the act will start to modify his behavior. He is a rescue. His new owners were doing a lot of things incorrectly so we have a lot of changes to make which means we have a better chance to change Moby's behavior:)

I had the pleasure of pet sitting for my old friends Tug and Poppy. It is a fun gig as Upper Cape Pet Services still came to walk them. Their loving owner is incapable of walking them. Because they know me so well and like Sgt Stubby it helped ease any separation anxiety they may have felt. I gave them doggie ice cream. I did some nose work with them. They were a little slow on the uptake of how to track me to find the treats I had dropped in the grass, but got better each time we did it.

Saturday Obedience Walk and Basic Obedience Class were rained out. We should get both in this weekend. Saturday the 10th there will be no walk or class as I will be in New Hampshire for the Columbus Day Weekend.

Stubby was dropped off at my ex-girlfriends house so he could do his therapy dog job with her daughter Jordan. Here is a photo of him hard at work!

The Falmouth Enterprise was in the front yard, so I had him do his old job of fetching the newspaper! Click on the link below to see the video.

DOGMAN DATA:

I checked and Google said this is a true story! He is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most humans rescued in 24 hours. He was given a "Honour the Valour" medal from the government. He lived a long happy life passing away from natural causes in 2008.

I got my steps in Sunday despite the rain. My poncho gave me the confidence to go, but I did not really need it, there was a gap in the showers. Saturday I wimped out and use the stair stepper at Planet Fitness to get my exercise in. The Russian Olives are huge and very sweet this year. We did not have a drought like last year. They are very plentiful too. I think I am going to collect a bunch and press them to make some Russian Olive juice! The desire for the sweetish juice could be symptom of my effort to give up sweets. The berries have pectin in them and are supposedly good for making jam. I might try that too. They are a sweet (and a little bit sour) treat for me on my walks. I have been able to munch on blueberries, sheep sorrel (sour grass), raspberries, crab apples and Russian Olives on my walks this year. The water was high and brown because of the runoff leading into the ponds. I encountered a milkweed. Unfortunately the Monarch Butterflies did not find it so no caterpillars or chrysalis.

I scour the exposed rocks after rain hoping to find an arrow head. I do not know if Kingston is a good area for arrow heads, but thousands of years of Native American habitation means there is always a chance. I found a spear head or hand knife in Sandwich once. I had it authenticated by an expert. He said the point was worked by humans and not natural. In my perusal of stones I found a heart shaped stone (kinda, wishful thinking for a sign that romance is nigh?). Then is saw what my grandson, Liam would call a "Cool rock"

Still looking for help manning tables at the Stand Down for Veterans Event Friday 9:30-2:30 October 2nd

at the Margaritaville Resort Hyannis

You do not have to be a Veteran or really do anything but say hello and try to give out cards and sign people up for CCMM newsletter. Even an hour or two would help. I released a volunteer that was going to come as he got an offer to go out fishing for stripers on his friends boat. I told him to go as it is supposed to be a nice warm day...but now I need a replacement:)
