An exerpt from the book one of our past clients wrote, here she expresses her new found hope:
"Stepping across the threshold of my new home, a subtle and profound wave of emotion washed over me—one so intense it seemed to press into my very chest, as if the walls themselves exhaled a breath they'd been holding for years alongside me. The air inside was quiet, carrying a stillness I hadn't known for far too long—a contrast so sharp to the chaos that has defined much of my life. Here, in this space I could finally call my own, devoid of fear and uncertainty, I found myself standing not only in a physical home, but at the threshold of a transformed existence illuminated by the resilience I had forged through pain and perseverance."

YOUR SUPPORT GAVE HER HOPE AND FRESH START IN HER VERY OWN HOME.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

As we recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October, all of us at The Bernie House want to extend our deepest gratitude for your continued partnership and compassion. Because of you, our program continues to grow, allowing us to offer safe, transitional housing and long-term support to even more families rebuilding their lives in safety and dignity that they deserve.

Direct support services for our families at The Bernie House costs $5,900 per month - totaling $70,800 annually to cover vital case management, safety planning, life skills training, and stable housing essentials.

To keep our expanded program fully operational, our goal is to fund 100% of our monthly direct support services ($5,900/month) for the remainder of the year. That’s a total target of $17,700 to close out 2026 fully supported.

Here is how you can help us reach this goal:

  • Monetary Financial Giving: Make a one-time gift or set up recurring monthly support to directly sponsor a family's ongoing care and housing services.

  • Launch a Facebook Fundraiser: Turn your social network into a force for good. Set up a fundraiser on Facebook dedicated to The Bernie House to help us fund a week, a month, or a full season of services. Don't worry we already have a script for you with your social media posts.

  • Host an Friendraiser Awareness Gathering: Open your home for a small cocktail party or informal gathering with friends. Invite a representative from The Bernie House to attend, share inspiring client success stories, and give your guests a chance to support our mission in a warm, personal setting. Don't worry we have messages already prepared for your invitation.

Together, we can ensure that families fleeing domestic violence have the reliable housing and resources they need to heal and thrive through the end of this year and beyond.
