Fellowship Match

We’re thrilled that our residents matched to many of the nation’s top fellowship programs across a broad range of specialties. We’re particularly excited that 22 of our 45 residents applying this year matched to a UCSF fellowship!

Honors and News

Michelle Albert received the American Heart Association’s James B. Herrick Award for Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Cardiology.

Rebecca Conant was honored with the American Academy of Home Care Medicine’s House Call Physician of the Year Award.

Yaron Gesthalter received the UCSF Health PRIDE Experience Award in the physician category.

Bridget O'Brien received the Academy of Medical Educators Service Award.

Rita Redberg was selected by UCSF Academic Senate as the recipient of the Faculty Research Lectureship in Social, Behavioral, and Health Policy Sciences for her work on health policy and reducing low-value care.

Ida Sim has been recognized by the 2025 Precision Medicine World Conference (PMWC) as a luminary honoree.

Lucas Zier received the Quality Leaders Award in Health Equity from the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems (CAPH).

DOM in the News

Peter Chin-Hong advocated for seasonal vaccines to prevent co-infections while respiratory viruses are on the rise (ABC News) and explained that mpox is generally difficult to transmit (KQED). He also attributed a good outcome in a Bay Area bird flu case to antivirals (Fox News) and assured that cooked turkey is safe to eat (San Francisco Chronicle).

Ari Johnson and his work with Muso Health, a global health organization based in Mali, were featured in Pulitzer Prize winner Nicholas Kristof’s annual holiday giving guide (New York Times).

Margot Kushel noted that compulsory treatment does not lead to better outcomes and criticized laws such as Prop 36 that dictate medical care (Mercury News).

Chaz Langelier advocated for at-home COVID tests for preventing transmission to others (NPR).

Diana Partida linked fatty liver disease among Latinos to genetic or heredity factors (Telemundo).

Sarah Patterson discussed the downside of using steroids as a long-term treatment and the benefits of maintaining a healthy weight in patients with lupus (TIME).

Michael Steinman advised listening to patient concerns about drug costs when treating chronic illnesses (New York Times).

Recent Grants of Note

Timothy Henrich and Zian Tseng: a grant of $5.6M over five years from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health for a project entitled, “Whole body deep tissue characterization of the human virome.”

Jesus Ramirez-Valles and Greg Rebchook: a grant of $5M over five years from the Centers for Disease Control for a project entitled, “UCSF Prevention Research Center: Reducing social isolation among older LGBTQ+ adults.”

Alison Huang and team: a grant of $4M over five years from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health and the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health for a project entitled, “A randomized trial of a remotely delivered group pelvic yoga program for women with chronic pelvic pain syndrome.”

Matthew Springer: a grant of $4M over five years from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for a project entitled, “Cardiovascular effects of inhalable tobacco product dual use.”
