Your monthly news & updates
Thank you!

DOVES would like to thank everyone who generously donated to our clients during the holiday season. Because of these donations, we were able to give our clients an opportunity to receive toys, food, and clothing for their families. Together, we were able to assist over 50 families, people who have overcome and continue to battle incredible hardships, this holiday season. Everyone at DOVES, clients and staff alike, are grateful for the bounty of charitable donations we receive each year.

While we couldn’t possibly list all the donors who made this possible, we would like to extend our gratitude to a select few here: Big Bear Disposal, Women of the Moose Lodge, Big Bear Moose Riders, D.A. Davidson, Cub Scout Pack 49, staff and students of Big Bear High School and Middle School, Big Bear Lake Community Church, First Baptist Church of Big Bear Lake, First Mountain Bank, Citi Bank, and The Bear Valley Giving Collaborative. Your selfless giving has made more difference that you can imagine and we appreciate your continuing support.

Lorrie's House Holiday Programs

This last month certainly went by quickly, but it was filled with Christmas fun and joy. We began the month with the Sheriff’s “Gift of Love” Party. Our clients, both young and old, had an amazing time. Everywhere they turned they were greeted with love and Christmas cheer. We all returned home full of great food and the spirit of the season. A huge thank you to Jana, Tiffany and our Citizen’s Patrol, who make this happen every year.

Our mothers were then able to go to the “Santa Shop” at our Outreach Center. There they could each pick out gifts for their children and wrap them. These were then set aside to be under our tree on Christmas morning.

If the season wasn’t warm and lovely enough, Acosta Firewood donated wood to our house. We look forward to many toasty and cozy fires soon.

Later in the week, our clients went to the Big Bear Disposal Party at the Old Country Inn. What a wonderful party this was! Maria, the owner of Old Country Inn, made us feel so welcome, and Big Bear Disposal was a great host as always. Lunch was amazing and Santa and Mrs. Claus gave lovely gifts to our clients and their children. Our youngest client set a record for Santa excitement. It was terrific.

Finally, just before Christmas, the Women of the Moose presented our clients and their children with gifts. The gifts were amazing and appeared under our Christmas Tree on Christmas morning. The gifts were selected with such love and received with immense gratitude.

Thank you all for such a lovely holiday.
New Program Offered for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

DOVES has been asked by San Bernardino County Probation to do a presentation for youth at the Barstow Reporting Day Center on the topic of Teen Dating Violence. This will take place on Feb. 7 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
The youth at the Reporting Center will have the ability to learn about the signs of possible dating violence as well as explore what a healthy relationship entails, and the correlations between ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and the effect of these experiences on their life. Studies have shown that the more traumatic experiences a child goes through, the higher risk they face for things like incarceration, disease, and even violent relationships.
DOVES has already done several presentations for the youth involved with the Barstow Day Reporting Center. This is the first time they have asked us to present on the topic of Teen Dating Violence. Probation Officers select the youths they are currently working with and make the referral for the presentation. Quinton Page, DOVES Program Manager, and Rebecca David, DOVES Legal Advocate, will be co-presenting.
