We're Back "On the Road Again!"
You’re invited for the grand unveiling of the Detroit Public Library’s brand new Mobile Library. For 80 years, a bookmobile has provided an integral service to the city of Detroit, visiting neighborhoods, schools, events and community organizations.

Noel Night
Join the Detroit Public Library for joyful, holiday fun and activities! We are excited to host a meet-and-greet for our brand new Mobile Library on our lawn at Woodward & Kirby. Santa Claus will be "in the house" to listen to kids' requests and to take photos. We will have free cider and Dutch Girl doughnuts (while supplies last) and DJ Emmett spinning holiday hits for you to dance those calories away. “The Scat Diva,” Audrey Northington, will be featured in our Clara Stanton Jones Friends Auditorium. Tour through our DPL Galleria featuring an opening reception for Desiree Kelly, our Open House for special collections or just stroll through our beautiful building and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.

Audrey Branham Northington sings Opera, Gospel and the Blues, but is best known for her “SCAT DIVA” performances at the historic Baker’s Keyboard Lounge and Bert’s Place in Eastern Market.

“Then and Now: A Retrospective of Portraits” Exhibition by Desiree Kelly

Join us we welcome Detroit artist Desiree Kelly to the Detroit Public Library Galleria. The exhibit at the Galleria will span nearly a decade of artistic development--revealing her evolution of style and exploration of techniques. The show illustrates how she uniquely combines street art, traditional oil painting, collage, mixed media and graphic design to create powerful portraits that are both artistically and historically beautiful and revealing. The library is honored to host an historic art exhibit created by an historically significant native Detroit artist.
