Susan Rice
The Detroit Public Library Author Series kicks off 2020 when the library welcomes Susan E. Rice on Sunday, January 19. Ambassador Rice was the National Security Advisor to President Obama and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. She was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University where she received a master’s degree and doctorate in international relations. Rice served throughout the Clinton administration, and became one of the nation’s youngest assistant secretaries of state.

Rice’s memoir, Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For is a New York Times bestseller. In the book, she recalls pivotal moments from her dynamic career on the front lines of American diplomacy and foreign policy.

The exhibit at the Galleria will span nearly a decade of artistic development--revealing her evolution of style and exploration of techniques. The show illustrates how she uniquely combines street art, traditional oil painting, collage, mixed media and graphic design to create powerful portraits that are both artistically and historically beautiful and revealing. The library is honored to host an historic art exhibit created by an historically significant native Detroit artist.
