WHAT'S HAPPENING

Tournament of Books (March 1-29) Follow our social media accounts (@dplslibraries) to vote in the 2021 Tournament of Books! It’s like March Madness, but pits the highest circulated YA books against the highest circulated adult reads. There will be a round of voting each week, and voters will be entered into a weekly prize drawing. The tournament begins March 1. Vote in the First Round

Make a Paracord Survival Bracelet (Available after March 8) Beginning March 8, youth in grades 6-12 can register to receive a paracord survival bracelet kit, which comes complete with a link to video instructions. Design a Bookmark Contest (March 2-27)) Celebrate Read Across America Day by creating your own unique bookmark! Pick up a bookmark template at any DPLS library, or click below to download one, and see a complete list of rules. All ages are welcome to participate. The community will vote on their favorite design from each age group, and winning designs will be printed as bookmarks to be distributed at all three DPLS locations. CONTEST RULES

LITKIT They're themed, monthly boxes stuffed with library books (for checkout) and other goodies for cardholders ages 13-25. They will be available for pickup and drop-off at any DPLS library BUT here's the catch: We have a limited amount, only 10 to give out! The April theme is "Rainy Days." THE GREAT TEEN READ It's a book discussion (#thegreatteenread) solely on Instagram! We post a picture or a video of the month's teen title and you leave your comments. This month we will be reading "We Are Not Free" by Traci Chee. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the lives of 14 Japanese-Americans will be changed forever. The country is in fear that all Japanese-Americans are spies, therefore, their communities are forced to register with the government, to abide by a curfew, then forced to relocate to interment camps. Told from the perspective of each of the 14 teens, "We Are Not Free" details the fight to stay strong as a community amidst the horrors and the racial injustice. JOIN THE DISCUSSION

SQUEEZY McSQUEEZY March Madness is almost here! I just found out that the library does their own version of March Madness called "Tournament of Books." This year, they are pitting the YA books against the adult. Here is a picture of me filling out my bracket. I'm a sucker for YA books, so I picked "My Sister the Serial Killer" to go all the way. Don't forget to participate in the tournament and vote each round to be entered to win a weekly gift card. P.S. Vote for "My Sister the Serial Killer"
