DPNM Calls on Steve Pearce’s NM GOP to Denounce Election Denial Ahead of Election Day

Republicans Can Be Expected to Pick and Choose Which Election Results to Undermine

Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico calls on Steve Pearce’s New Mexico GOP to denounce election denial and extremism ahead of the election. No doubt about it, radical MAGA extremism has become the norm of the New Mexico GOP.

Across the country, Republicans spread conspiracy theories and make excuses when they lose elections, and Steve Pearce’s New Mexico GOP is no exception. New Mexico’s most prominent Republicans adhere to the most conspiratorial, anti-democratic factions of their party to make up for their lack of policies that would move New Mexico forward.

“On Tuesday night, New Mexico’s GOP can be expected to pick and choose which election results to complain about. This is why DPNM calls on Steve Pearce and his New Mexico Republican Party to accept the election results, win or lose. Anything else is damaging to the fabric of our democracy.

“Divisive, conspiratorial, and dangerous rhetoric has led to threats against our own party staff and puts the MAGA agenda over helping New Mexicans. It is important that we stop dangerous election denial and hold those who espouse it accountable, and the only way to do that is by voting,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Communications Director Daniel Garcia.

Some examples of NM Republicans undermining Democracy include:

Mark Ronchetti has accepted large contributions from fake electors who tried to overturn the valid results of the 2020 election. He also accepted campaign money from John Eastman, mastermind behind the January 6th insurrection.

One of Yvette Herrell’s first votes in Congress was against certifying the 2020 election results and she recently voted against the Presidential Election Reform Act, which will help protect our electoral system from future subversion attempts, like the January 6th insurrection. After losing the race for NM-02 in 2018, she claimed Democrats “took” the election from her and falsely cried voter fraud.

NM Mexico GOP Chair Steve Pearce was the mastermind behind the fake elector scheme in New Mexico as Chair of the New Mexico Republican Party. According to Jewell Powdrell (one of the New Mexico fake electors), Steve Pearce even said that he believed Donald Trump would be president forever.

Perennially unsuccessful GOP candidate for NM-01 Michelle Garcia Holmes said she personally supported insurrectionists and took the lead in an effort to overturn valid 2020 election results in Bernalillo County. She supported the insurrectionists and called the 2020 Presidential election “stolen” by liberals.

Even though she’s running to be New Mexico’s top election official, GOP candidate for NM Secretary of State Audrey Trujillo openly spreads election denialism and has pushed conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election. She believes the 2020 election was, in her words, a “coup” orchestrated by President Biden and she supported Otero County’s refusal to certify New Mexico’s 2022 primary election results.

Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received by County Clerks by close of business on Election Day. Absentee ballots can be returned in person at any voting location in a voter’s county Saturday or on Election Day. Voters can find voting locations near them at IWillVote.com.
