“For all its imperfections, America is still the beacon to the world,
an ideal to be realized, a promise to be kept.” President Joseph Biden

Good Morning Fellow Democrats!
Last Tuesday the GOP-controlled House of Representatives, in a move led by radical ultra-right-wing Representative Matt Gaetz, voted to remove Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy from his position. Historically, this was a first. No Speaker had ever before been involuntarily removed from that position. Now the House GOP is scrambling to find a replacement who will be acceptable to both the sane “traditional” Republicans and the anti-Constitutional MAGA radicals. That may take a very long time, and the House is restricted from conducting any other business until a new Speaker is elected. This with another possible government shutdown looming just five weeks away, when the current Continuing Resolution expires.
The split in the GOP makes the “Berniecrat vs. Hillarycrat” strife in the Democratic Party in 2015 and 2016 look like a minor disagreement, by comparison. Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio is considered by many to be the frontrunner for election to the position, and he has Donald Trump’s endorsement. Some MAGA Republicans are crying for Trump himself to be elected Speaker. But there are still some sane Republicans in the House who don’t want to see their party go completely down the rabbit hole of the MAGA movement . . . a movement whose real goal is to completely do away with the Constitution.
This is a distressing turn of events for the nation, but there is a silver lining for Democrats. While Republicans are doing such a great job of fighting amongst themselves and splitting their party into warring factions, by comparison Democrats appear to be the adults in the room, staying above the fray. This is a time when we can . . . and we SHOULD . . . be making friends among the vast number of former Republicans who’ve become disenchanted with their own party and are leaving it.
Join us at our monthly meeting this coming Sunday and bring a friend!
