“For all its imperfections, America is still the beacon to the world,

an ideal to be realized, a promise to be kept.President Joseph Biden

Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter  November 27, 2023

Good Morning Fellow Democrats:

This past week, we noted with great sadness, the passing of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who died last Sunday. Rosalynn was far more than just our nation’s First Lady for four years. She was President Carter’s full partner in everything he did before, during, and after his Presidency. In President Carter’s own words, “I have one life and one chance to make it count for something... My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference.” President Carter and Rosalynn both lived by that promise every day of their adult lives.

Starting with Jimmy’s graduation from the Naval Academy, through his military service, service to his state as Governor, his service to the country as President and to the world community through a plethora of public service organizations, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were a shining example of what every human being should aspire to become.

With his lifelong partner now gone from his life we can’t reasonably expect the 99-year-old former President, who preceded his wife in hospice care several months ago, to last much longer. The couple has long been a symbol of what’s good in America. Half of that symbol is now gone. Rosalynn Carter was a national treasure. She is irreplaceable.
