Hello Fellow Democrats and ANTIFA followers,
On Saturday, with lots of hamburgers, hot dogs and, of course, fireworks to frighten our pets, we celebrated America’s 250th birthday, right?
WRONG!
Many 4th of July celebrations touted the day as such, but what was REALLY America’s birthday?
First of all, “America” is not just our nation. America consists of 42 sovereign nations across three regions: 12 in South America, 7 in Central America, and 23 in North America. But America is much older than any of those nations. America was created about 200 million years ago, when the land masses that we recognize today broke off from the single land mass that scientists call Pangaea, but there were no humans around to record exactly when that happened. And America wasn’t even named “America” until April 25, 1507, when the first European map named it that.
But let’s talk about our own country, the United States of America. It didn’t exist in 1776. It was on July 4th of that year that 13 colonies of Great Britain’s declared themselves to be independent of their "mother country", so we officially call it Independence Day, but our forefathers just saying that they were independent didn’t make it so. It wasn’t until more than five years later, on October 19, 1781, that British General Lord Cornwallis surrendered to Continental Army General George Washington, ending major combat operations in our Revolutionary War, and it took almost two more years, until September 3, 1783, before Great Britain would recognize the independence of their former colonies.
But even then, the United States of America didn’t really exist, because those 13 colonies became 13 independent little countries with a treaty that was little more than the treaty that created NATO, called the Articles of Confederation. So, we can’t really celebrate October 19th or September 3rd as the birthday of the United States of America on those dates, either.
So, what day SHOULD we celebrate as our nation’s birthday? Well, the first place that the term “the United States of America” appeared in any official document was in the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States of America, which was signed by delegates of 12 of the 13 original states on September 17, 1787. That document, the framework of our government, wasn’t ratified until June 21, 1788, and didn’t go into effect until March 4, 1789. All good dates, to be sure!
I suppose it’s a good thing that Donald Trump never took a course in Early American History, or he’ll want to try to use September 3rd, September 17th, October 19th, March 4th, April 25th and June 21st as occasions to try to rewrite history, making rambling speeches at rallies, supporting his neo-Fascist agenda. Let’s set November 3rd as our NEW Independence Day by voting for a government that will be independent of the whims and fantasies of Donald Trump.
Stand Up! Push Back! VOTE like our freedom depends on it, because it DOES!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Refute the Republican Rhetoric
By Bill Peifer
Last Monday, following the Supreme Court’s decision regarding the 14th Amendment guaranteeing citizenship to anyone born in this country, Donald Trump posted on his Untruth Social account:
The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process. No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support! President DONALD J. TRUMP
The first lie in this post is where he claims that the Supreme Court agreeing that the Constitution is constitutional and that Executive Orders that contradict it are unconstitutional “is too bad for our Country”. There is a downside to this ruling. It means that four of Trump’s five children, who were born to immigrant mothers with no medical documentation to prove who their father is, are now definitely citizens and will be around to plague this country for years to come. But it also means that millions of American citizens can breathe a little bit easier now, because it makes it more difficult (albeit not impossible) for ICE to come after them and deport them to countries where they’ve never lived.
But the REALLY big lie is where he claims that “we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation”. Really? Does he honestly believe that the Supreme Court, after unequivocally stating that his Executive Orders don’t trump (pun intended) the Constitution, will state that laws passed by Congress that run contrary to the words and intent of the Constitution can stand? Does he really think that it’s not necessary to go through the “long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment” to change portions that he doesn’t like? He thought that he could do it through Executive Order, and when that got shot down in flames, he now thinks that he can do it by getting Congress to pass an unconstitutional law that he will happily sign.
He must have been playing golf the day that Article V of the Constitution was discussed in any of his college courses that covered the Constitution. If, that is, he actually TOOK any courses in college more advanced than “Golf 101” and “Conning, Cheating & Lying 200”.
