Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter
June 1, 2026
| | |
Hello Fellow Democrats and ANTIFA followers,
Tomorrow is primary election day, the first Tuesday in the month of June. If you have not already voted in the early voting window or as an absentee voter, tomorrow is your day! If you are an Independent or a DTS, decline to state registered voter, for the very first time in New Mexico history you are allowed to vote in the primary. You will have to decide which ballot you want; you must choose either a Democrat or Republican ballot. If you are unsure, you can request a sample ballot of either party or both parties prior to receiving your actual ballot. Of course, we are hoping you will choose a Democrat ballot and help support the Dem’s causes. Even if you are not registered to vote, you can register on election day. If you have been conjuring up reasons to not vote, that list just got shorter. New Mexico has done a great job of making voting easy for everyone. In fact, if you do not have transportation to the election site, call us. We will do everything in our power to get someone to pick you up and drive you to the nearest voting place. I hope each of you will make the time to vote and make your voice heard! It is especially important in today’s world, we need a Blue Wave in November, and you need to be a part of it!
We have a tremendous opportunity in Torrance County to have a Democratic majority on the Torrance County Commission and a Dem in the Assessor’s Office. Our own Bill Piefer is running in District 1 and long-time school board member Albert Chavez is running in District 2. Hugh (Gino) Jones, who has almost 20 years of experience in the Assessor’s Office, is running for County Assessor. None of these Dems have opponents in the primary, but Democrats have been a thing of the past for these positions. Your votes will be especially important in November. All these folks need your support and campaign contributions if you can help. Again, call or stop by the office, someone will be glad to help you contribute and provide you with yard signs. Speaking of yard signs, we have a wide variety of Dem signs in the office. Stop by to visit and pick up a sign or two.
I am working as an election clerk at the Mountain View Administration Office, so maybe I will see you there on Tuesday.
Have a great week everyone,
Myra Oden

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Refute the Republican Rhetoric
By Bill Peifer
This week, as is often the case, I’ve gone to Trump’s Untruth Social posts for a particularly ridiculous lie to write about. This time the post was so bizarre that Trump, or more likely one of his handlers, has since deleted it, but not before I made a screenshot of it. It’s not really that huge of a lie, but I chose it because it demonstrates just how much in need of the 25th Amendment we are, because he’s gone absolutely insane! He posted:
I am absolutely FURIOUS. A Radical Left Judge, probably appointed by somebody very weak and very low energy, has ordered my beautiful name REMOVED from the Kennedy-Trump Center, which many people are saying should simply be called the TRUMP CENTER anyway because, frankly, everyone knows who the star attraction is. This is the worst attack on Presidential Naming Rights since they refused to put my face on Mount Rushmore. The courts are completely out of control. They tell me what I can name buildings, what I can do, what laws I have to follow, and frankly it’s becoming VERY UNFAIR. At some point, and I’m not saying today, but maybe soon, maybe very soon, maybe in two weeks, I may have no choice but to start treating court orders the same way Joe Biden treated the border – completely optional. Sad!
Now, the only real lie here is when he says that “many people” say it should be the call the Trump Center, and that he’s the “star attraction”. I don’t think that Melania, Donnie Jr., Eric and Stephen Miller combined count as “many people”.
It’s true that the courts are telling him that his right to name things are restricted, since changing the name on anything that Congress named in the first place, like the Kennedy Center, can only legally be done by Congress. And it’s true that courts are telling him that he is required to follow laws, which is bound to make him furious. The scary part is that he openly threatens to defy court orders. The man has become seriously unhinged. If he was ever properly “hinged” to begin with
