Good morning fellow Democrats, Antifa members and passionate activists!
I got really excited this week when I ran across a YouTube video of some woman telling me that DJT was about to be impeached and that the national guard had surrounded the white house, that all of his assets were now in receivership and all of his staff members were scared to death they were about to be carted off to jail. Nothing would make my heart happier than seeing Steven Miller in jail! I have said to a few of you that if someone were to start a GoFundMe account to take Steven Miller out, I would contribute a significant amount of money. This nameless woman quoted DJT as saying that his base was about to start Civil War. She seemed a little odd, she never took a breath, she talked and talked and never paused for anything. She had some pretty strange hand gestures that kept repeating themselves with a weird frequency. Something about her was a little off. The bells in the back of head were going off asking why aren’t other news sources reporting on this? This is big stuff for just one woman to be talking about! I Googled some of the so-called facts that she was spewing and sure enough, none of it was reality. It appears to be somebody’s idea of a joke with AI generated BS probably meant to drive Democrats like me crazy. I really wanted a great deal of what she said to be true, I was hoping it was true, but sadly I had to give it up and realize that it really was BS and that she got me pretty wound up there for a little bit. Unfortunately, it is just another day in the world of craziness with DJT.
There have been large protests all over the country this week protesting ICE and demands for ICE OUT, the number of people showing up has been impressive, even in Albuquerque. All of us have been shaken by the murders of Rene Good, Alex Pretti and others, not to mention the detainment of a 5-year-old boy. It continues to feel like we are still watching the same bad movie, a movie that seems to have no ending. But there have some glimmers of hope this week with a Texas democrat being elected to office in a very red state. Texas is actually not all that red, they have been gerrymandered so badly that most Democrats do not have a prayers chance in hell of winning anything.
The next NO KINGS DAY march has been scheduled for March 28th, please put that date on your calendar and let’s make a point of showing up to support it. More information will be forthcoming.
I also want you to put April 19th on your calendar and plan to show up for our Denim & Diamonds fundraising event. We are working diligently to turn Torrance County BLUE and you can help by planning to attend and bring your family and friends with you. This will be an evening of great fun with Nacho’s catering the meal, professional musicians, a nice big dance floor, and interesting political speaker. Let’s talk politics and make it a great evening with our fellow Democrats. Please make your reservation early as there is limited seating.
STAND UP, PUSH BACK AND CONTINUE THE FIGHT!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Refute the Republican Rhetoric
By Bill Peifer
Last Tuesday, Trump traveled to Clive, Iowa to make a speech about the economy. In true Trump style, he spent much of the speech praising himself, including the comment that he had single-handedly “beaten inflation”. Well, I don’t know how “beaten” inflation really is at this point, but let’s ignore that braggadocio for the moment. He also praised his great victory over inflation by claiming that “Joe Biden handed us a mess. We inherited the legacy of record high inflation, the highest inflation in the history of our country.” That’s where the lie comes in. Not questioning that the economy was a mess when Biden left office and Trump replaced him, but rather in Trump’s rewriting of economic history by claiming that when he moved back into the White House, inflation was “the highest in the history of our country”.
Thanks mostly to two “stimulus” packages (checks of $1,200 per eligible person under Trump and $1,400 per eligible person under Biden) during Covid, inflation under Biden peaked at 9.06% in June of 2022. Then the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 started bringing the rate down gradually, and by the time Trump came into office for his current term it was down to 2.82%. It’s now at 2.74%. Trump claims to have “beaten inflation” by reducing it by a whole .08%! But how about that 2.82% being “the highest inflation in the history of our country”?
In July of 2018, 18 months into Trump’s first term, the inflation rate was at 2.95%, which is .13% HIGHER than the rate that Trump claims was the highest in history. In July of 2008, nearing the end of George W. Bush’s second term, the inflation rate hit 5.60%, roughly DOUBLE the 2.82% when Biden left office. 18 years earlier, during George H.W. Bush’s one term in office, it hit 6.29%! And early in Reagan’s first term it hit 11.41% and didn’t get any lower than 9.55% for much of Reagan’s first year.
Was inflation bad during much of Biden’s term? Absolutely! But that was due to those two lovely stimulus checks, and it was on its way down, getting below 3%, a far cry from “the highest in the history of our country”. By the way, the true “highest in the history of our country” would be the 23.67% rate that was hit in June of 1920 under Woodrow Wilson after World War One. Things like wars and pandemics do seem to impact the economy, you see.

by Rick Holman
On this last day of January 2026, in the conservative leaning town of Moriarty, the determined defenders of democracy bested their previous participation by 100%; eighteen and growing each week. If one should question the value of a single individual to encourage the momentum of many, you absolutely must come, join and participate in this rising effort by those exhibiting grassroots democracy in the finest form of solidarity and
commitment for our prodemocracy, anti-authoritarian cause.
Today and each week, our voices are soundly intensified (once only one voice, then two, next three, then five, enthusiastically nine, and now eighteen vibrant choruses) as we stand up to anti-democratic power, incredible amoral indecency, and lawless corruption in our government’s incorrigible incompetence. It is not the entrenched MAGA believer we wish to sway or enlighten but rather those hesitant citizens, the voters, uniformed and misinformed in their Fox News world, who, with our demonstrated unity, our persistence and growing presence, they might see the messages we amplify as a demand for justice and constitutional accountability.
Do not hesitate to throw your enthusiastic energy, your sacred gift of freedom of speech, and assemble with us in support with this stalwart group. Share your messages of solidarity, face to face.
Crossroads: Hiway 41 and Route 66 east side of the City park.

Looking for Democrats to run in 2026
With the 2025 non-partisan elections behind us, the DPTC is now looking at the 2026 Torrance County elections. These elections are partisan, but in the recent past there have only been Republicans on the ballot for the General Election since it’s been difficult to persuade Democrats to run in a county where it’s perceived that only Republicans can win. Because of this perception, there have been times when Democrats want to run, but feel that they have to change their party affiliation to “Republican” to get elected. In 2026 we’d like to change this perception, but we need brave Democrats to step up and “put their hats in the ring”. Here are the positions that will be up for election in 2026 along with the estimated annual salary:
County Commissioner District 1 – Pays $27,570.
County Commissioner District 2 – Pays $27,570.
Sheriff – Pays $72,164.
Assessor – Pays $70,031.
Probate Judge – Pays $24,180.
Magistrate Judge – Pays $79,537
All of the salaries shown are the current salaries which will likely go up slightly with a “cost of living” increase at the first of the year. The DPTC stands ready to assist you as much as possible, should you choose to step up and run for one of these positions! Contact Bill Peifer if you have any interest in running.
