Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

December 16, 2024

Happy Holidays to All My Democratic Friends:

This holiday season I encourage everyone to shop locally when you can. It's the local businesses that have been supportive of our families and our party throughout the year and we should acknowledge their support this holiday season. I want to mention a few of them specifically because of the level of their involvement for Democratic causes over the years.

Moriarty Foods and Rt. 66 Shopping Center owner Charles Bates has been a huge supporter of the Democratic Party of Torrance County both with donations of funds, food, and office space at a minimal rent. If you haven't been in the grocery store lately, I encourage you to go back in. There have been multiple updates and improvements in the structure as well as the product choices. They deserve our support.

La Hacienda restaurant owner Elia Villa has supported us over the years. She has opened her restaurant on Sundays, her day of rest, to us for monthly meetings and prepared taco bars for hungry Democrats.

The Anaya family have been foundational members of our party for decades. They have contributed to the local economy and employment for their entire lives. Support the businesses in the old Mike's Friendly Store and El Comedor, as well as Mickey's Place, which all have great gift ideas.

If you are in Willard or Mountainair over the holidays, stop into the Willard Cantina and Shaffer Hotel to show your appreciation for their help this past year. You will enjoy a great meal and friendly down-home service.

In Estancia, stop by the Sanchez owned Old Mill Restaurant and the Feed Store to let that fine family know you appreciate them. Javier is always a great guy to talk to about the history of our county.

I don't mean to exclude any business or supporter but wanted to mention the above folks specifically. We have many great options here in Torrance County and its small businesses that are the engines of our communities. You won't see the Walmarts or Smiths contributing to school activities, local charities, and community events. It's these small businesses that step up every time they are asked. Let's support them.

Again, Happy Holidays, no matter how you celebrate them and fight on for the freedoms we deserve as Americans.

“There are moments when I’m deeply, deeply sad. And there are moments when, yes, even I feel desperation. We all do. But you have to own it. You have to accept it. You have to shed the tears, and then you have to wipe them and get up and fight some more.”
