Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

September 21, 2026

Hello Fellow Democrats,

This coming Saturday, we will have a big presence at Moriarty’s biggest event of the year, the Pinto Bean Fiesta in Moriarty’s City Park (near the water tower), starting at 10 AM. Be sure to stop by our booth to pick up yard signs or update your voter registration! This will be our last event of the summer season, with the election now just six weeks away.

Speaking of the election, we will once again be providing rides to the polls during Early Voting. As of right now, we only have two people signed up to provide rides and really do need additional volunteers to drive. One of those two people who have volunteered is myself, and as a candidate I expect to be very busy during that Early Voting period and especially on Election Day.

On election day, Myra will be busy visiting each of the local voting locations, so PLEASE . . . if you can step up and volunteer to drive your neighbors to the polls to vote, please contact Millie and be prepared to help out. We need a massive voter turnout this year, so please help us see to it that nobody is unable to vote for lack of a ride to the polls!

STAND UP! PUSH BACK! BECAUSE WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

Show up! Vote Blue!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!

Refute the Republican Rhetoric

By Bill Peifer

Early Sunday morning, Trump posted the following on Untruth Social:

At the strong request of the United States Military, and for National Security purposes, I have agreed to convert the magnificent Triumphal Arch, planned since the Civil War Era many years ago, at the Receptive Circle adjoining the Arlington Memorial Bridge, into a top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch, to house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas, and additionally have and hold large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage. There will be no facility like this anywhere in the World. Out of the 59 top cities and Capitals, Washington, D.C., IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD THAT DOES NOT HAVE A TRIUMPHAL ARCH, but it will now and, by far, the greatest of them all! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

This is pure BS! In previous weeks, Trump managed to defy court orders that called for a halt to construction of his ridiculously flamboyant ballroom by claiming that it was really a military project with a super-secret military complex beneath the ballroom. And now he’s trying to do exactly the same thing with his unnecessary Trumphial Arch. If “the United States Military” actually requested anything regarding the proposed arch, it was only because he told Whiskey Pete Hegseth to make the request. Honestly, there is no need to further militarize Washington D.C. with more drones and snipers than he’s already promised to include with the unnecessary ballroom!

But let’s talk about other cities and capitals. Of the “59 top cities and Capitals” in the world, 19 of those cities are in China. There are zero Triumphal Arches in China. Of the remaining 40 top cities, only eight have at least one Triumphal Arch, including New York City, which has FOUR of them. And to put the icing on Trump’s cake of lies, Washington D.C. actually DOES have, not just one but TWO Triumphal Arches.

If he were to do as other presidents have often done, and gaze out across the monuments and memorials in our nation’s capital, looking just a little west of his due-south view he would be able to see those two arches. At the far end of the Reflecting Pool (that he recently screwed up) from the Lincoln Memorial sit the Atlantic and Pacific Arches. But it’s understandable why he would have never noticed those two arches, since they’re part of the World War II Memorial, which honors the fight against fascism, something he would have never supported.
