Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

September 14, 2026

Hello Fellow Democrats,

If you have been following DJT’s attempt to restrict mail in voting, you know that next week is a big week at the Supreme Court. If you have not been following it or need a refresher, DJT and the DOJ have involved the US Post Service by implementing new rules that would impose significant requirements on mail ballots just two months before this year’s midterm elections. Numerous lawsuits have been filed, one of those being from Democracy Docket who is run primarily by Mark Elias who is legal counsel for the Democratic Party. The administration has lost at every attempt to implement their changes and have now appealed to the Supreme Court. It has been said that the rule changes are not necessarily the desired outcome but the chaos and havoc the changes will sow is the final goal. Chaos and havoc at the US Postal Service would give Donnie boy the ability to disenfranchise thousands if not millions of voters. Which in turn would give MAGAets a win or the ability to contest the final vote count.

Many people are saying that the US Postal Service has no rights of any kind to be involved in the elections or to lay down rules about how the ballots are handled. In my mind they are right, it is the states that manage their own elections with little to no involvement by the US Government let alone the US Postal Service. It has also been said the US Postmaster General is a Republican and leans heavily in support of DJT. There is a big problem there with a serious conflict in interest!

In New Mexico you can request a ballot be mailed to you. What you do with your ballot once received and filed out carefully according to the instructions is up to you. You can mail it back or deliver it to a local polling place on election day. My best advice to you is DO NOT MAIL YOUR BALLOT BACK!  Deliver it to the polling place or simply vote in person. No matter how this Supreme Court ruling comes out next week DO NOT GIVE Donnie Boy THE ABILITY TO MESS AROUND WITH YOUR BALLOT! Delivering your ballot or voting in person is the only way you can be certain that your vote will be counted! Please do NOT let the DJT garbage frustrate you or prevent you from voting. We need each and every one of you to do your part to protect our democracy.

On another note, Pinto Bean Fiesta in Moriarty is coming up Saturday, September 26th. We can still use help in the parade and the booth  You can volunteer to walk alongside the float and throw candy There are still shifts that need to be filled for manning the booth. Again, call Millie to register to help. Everything starts at 9:00 am, we will have people at the parade line up and at the park to set up the booth. I must say that I truly enjoy the booth work. If you have never done it, you will be surprised at how many wonderful conversations with the public take place. Getting out there and talking with people is what it is all about! Get involved, it’s worth it!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!

Refute the Republican Rhetoric

By Bill Peifer

On Wednesday and Thursday, the Republicans held an unheard-of mid-term convention in Dallas. Called “Trump-a-palooza” by many, it lived up to its nickname with Trump himself headlining the circus on both nights. Here’s what Trump posted on Untruth Social about it shortly before 6 AM on Thursday, which was just about the halfway point of the two-day event:

The Republican Midterm Convention last night, in Dallas, was a major, sold out hit, far bigger, better, and more important than anyone thought possible. It was really something, streaming all over the place, and really big numbers, despite going up against the NFL. The overall numbers beat the NFL. The Arena, which was really nice, beat its own attendance records. The place was packed! There were thousands of people outside who couldn’t get in. Screens were provided. I guess people LOVE TRUMP POLITICS! I’ll be there again tonight to close out the show. Exciting “Stuff!” MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!

“Sold out”? Well, the convention floor of the American Airlines Center in Dallas may have been sold out at $25,000 per seat for the candidates looking to kiss Trump’s ring (or something else of Trump’s) and get his endorsement, but the side wings of the second level, and the entire third level, were reportedly very nearly completely empty. That’s not just according to the members of the media who were there to cover the event. That’s corroborated by videos posted on social media platforms by attendees.

“Streaming all over the place?” There were very few streaming services carrying it, and those who did haven’t reported how many viewers they had, so the “really big numbers, despite going up against the NFL” are presumably based on the viewership on FAUX News, the only TV network to carry the “convention”, and they report only about 2.5 million viewers. NFL football games typically get between 14 million and 30 million viewers, so beating the NFL’s season opening game is almost certainly wishful thinking on Trump’s part. But we should be accustomed by now to Trump tacking an extra zero or two, and sometimes three, to any reasonable estimate of the size of his crowds. That doesn’t even really qualify as a Trump Lie anymore. That’s just Trump being Trump.

Perhaps the most telling report when it comes to Trump’s exaggerated claims of the crowd size is that several people in local retirement homes reported that organizers had visited their facilities to offer residents $50 if they’d accept a free ticket to Trump-a-palooza, with many people declining the offer.

Watch for this column next week, since I’m planning to get into Trump’s promise of a “Trump Dividend” of $5,000 to ever adult American if . . . and ONLY if . . . Republicans keep the House and Senate after the elections this year.
