Fellow Democrats:
If you need reinforcement of the differences in values between the MAGA right and our Democratic Party, read the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 and the Republican Study Committee’s 2025 budget plan. You will see why we must push back and get out the vote this year.
In the late 1930’, Sinclair Lewis, the famous American author and playwright, appeared in a play based on his best-seller novel It Can’t Happen Here about fascism in America. Of course, this was the time of the rise of fascism in Europe and the power of the Nazi party in Germany was about to lead the world back into war.
Lewis is frequently quoted as saying “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross”. There is dispute over whether Lewis actually ever made this statement, but when we look at what is being proposed in the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, the statement, regardless of its origin, strikes at the core of Republican philosophy. White male domination veiled in false morals and false patriotism. More particularly continued wealthy, white male domination.
This right-wing philosophy, based on principles from the Old Testament, harkens against equality for minorities, be they gender, or race based. Further it harkens the same “keep the status quo” that has created glass ceilings for minorities historically in this country. We need only look at the pre-Civil War years and the historical efforts thereafter to see the attacks that the right wing has made against diversity, immigration, gay rights, and general civic equality. While these attacks are nothing new, under the current Republican regime, they are now on steroids. The methodology for promoting Project 2025 is the Republican tried and true “fear” based strategy.
To quote from the Forward of the Project 2025 Mandate:
“…Look at America under the ruling and cultural elite today; Inflation is ravaging family budgets, drug overdose deaths continue to escalate, and children suffer the toxic normalization of transgenderism with drag queens and pornography invading their school libraries. …” According to the Heritage Foundation “the very moral foundations of our society are in peril.” In other words, lest we return to the status quo, i.e. the 1950s where father knows best, at least if he’s white, we are destined for ruin.
My questions for the Heritage Foundation are:
1. Who do they believe are the “ruling and cultural elite” in our country, if not the wealthy elite?
2. Do they really believe that “transgenderism”, or for that matter homosexuality, is historically novel?
3. What does the “invasion” of pornography into school libraries consist of?
4. Who is the “decider” for what our students should read?
Give me a break. If high school students aren’t ready to read and analyze Catcher in the Rye, I say we have a greater problem than the conservatives recognize.
I invite you to read the Project 2025 Mandate for Leadership at project2025.org. if you doubt that the agenda is to create fear and to turn the clock back to 1950’s white male domination.
The right wing in this country, since the Reagan administration, has successfully transferred trillions of dollars to the wealthiest 1% of Americans while increasing the national debt and budget deficit during their times of power. This is fact, not conjecture.
If we allow the right wing to take control of the White House and Congress, we will continue this upward spiral benefiting the true “elite” of this country. They will continue to cut regulations for industries that pollute our environment, cut Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. They will continue to oppose higher taxes on the ultra-rich and will once again cut taxes for the elite. They will continue their opposition to health care for all and the negotiation with Big Pharma to reduce prices of needed medications. Just read the RSC 2025 budget plan.
The Biden Administration’s proposed budget champions the middle class; protects Social Security and Medicare and promotes the working people of America. Biden has accomplished so much in so little time, and we need four more years to continue the low employment rates, growth of our economy, and wage increases for our workers.
If our Democratic principles are worth fighting for – if you truly believe that we are right – it’s time to Stand Up, Fight Back, Vote and Get Involved.
