“For all its imperfections, America is still the beacon to the world,

an ideal to be realized, a promise to be kept.President Joseph Biden

Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter  September 25, 2023

Good morning, Democrats!

The calendar says that we are now officially into autumn, and the brisk morning air confirms that fact. Everyone involved in politics, from professional politicians to those who only votes occasionally, knows that autumn is when the election season really heats up, and this autumn is no different.

“But wait!” you might say. “We have our elections in even-numbered years! This is an odd-numbered year, so it’s not an election year!” It’s true that this is an odd-numbered year, but it’s still an election year. In odd-numbered years we hold local elections. Yes, there will be a ballot again this year, and while the names on the ballot might not be as well-known as the names on our ballots for federal and state-level candidates, these positions are equally important, if not MORE important for folks in our communities.

This autumn voters in various local communities will elect mayors, city/town councilors, school board members and various other local positions. These are the people who will have even greater impact on our everyday lives than the President, Governor or any other federal or state elected official.

These are, almost without exception, non-partisan elections, so the Democratic Party has no official role to play. We won’t support or oppose any given candidate, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have a role to play, and that is to try to get every Democrat out to vote for the candidates whose views most closely align with their own. Get to know the candidates and what they stand for. And then, STAND UP, PUSH BACK, VOTE!
