Hello Fellow Democrats and ANTIFA followers,
Denim & Diamonds is DONE for 2026! We’re exhausted and still recovering, but I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this first-ever event a huge success! Not just our little planning committee, but also the volunteers who turned out to help us set up the afternoon of the event, the Greenside Trio who provided the entertainment, Senator Liz Stefanics who served as Mistress of Ceremonies, the many candidates and sponsors, Nachos Restaurant for the delicious food and, of course, the attendees.
It wasn’t perfect. Lt. Governor Howie Morales, who was our keynote speaker, was unavoidably delayed (not at all his fault) and there was an issue with the sound system. Plus, there are a couple of areas where we believe that we can improve as we plan for the 2027 Denim & Diamonds, but for the most part things went pretty much as well as we’d hoped.
For those who attended as well as those who couldn’t attend, please be ready for next year. Even though we won’t have any candidates on the ballot vying for your attention next year, we’re looking forward to another great evening of Democratic camaraderie!
Thanks again to all who were involved!
Stand Up! Push Back! Continue the Fight!
Bill

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Refute the Republican Rhetoric
By Bill Peifer
On Wednesday of this past week Donald Trump posted the following rant:
A RIGGED ELECTION TOOK PLACE LAST NIGHT IN THE GREAT COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA! All day long Republicans were winning, the Spirit was unbelievable, until the very end when, of course, there was a massive “Mail In Ballot Drop!” Where have I heard that before — And the Democrats eked out another Crooked Victory! Six to five goes to ten to one, and yet the Presidential Election in November was very close to a 50-50 split. In addition to everything else, the language on the Referendum was purposefully unintelligible and deceptive. As everyone knows, I am an extraordinarily brilliant person, and even I had no idea what the hell they were talking about in the Referendum, and neither do they! Let’s see if the Courts will fix this travesty of “Justice.” President DONALD J. TRUMP
As is typical of Trump’s posts, this one was filled with lies. The first was when he claimed that “All day long Republicans were winning, the Spirit was unbelievable.” Exit polling “all day long” showed it being very close, with the lead going back and forth several times. Of course, exit polls don’t really count for much, and it’s true that the earliest results after the polls closed had the Republican “NO” votes up by as much as 5% at one point, about 45 minutes after the polls closed. But 15 minutes later the “YES” votes took a slight lead.
The reason? Urban counties typically take much longer to count their votes. It’s far easier and faster to count the votes in a precinct with only 100 voters than precincts with 2,000 or more voters. By 8:30, the “YES” votes had a slight lead with densely populated and very “blue” Arlington and Fairfax Counties (Alexandria) just beginning to report. The “NO” votes did take the lead back briefly, but then Fairfax County reported and it was all over. That wasn’t a massive “Mail In Ballot Drop”. It was simply a very blue county being the last to report because they have twice as many people as any other county in the state. Only 13.7% of Fairfax County’s votes were mail-in votes (51,850), not enough to change the 89,353-vote win by the “YES” votes.
Trump’s other claim that the presidential election of 2024 was “close to a 50-50 split” is hogwash! Trump got 46% of the vote in Virginia. Harris got just under 52%. That’s not a 50-50 split. Not even close!
Finally, in a claim that the referendum question was “unintelligible and deceptive”, Trump claimed that “everyone knows” that he’s “an extraordinarily brilliant person”, so it’s inconceivable that he wouldn’t understand it. But no “extraordinarily brilliant person” would ever be called “the dumbest goddamn student I ever had” by his economics professor.
