Good Morning Fellow Democrats:
It’s early Sunday morning in the mountains of Southern Colorado as I try to process what happened this past week and why we missed the mark so widely across the country. I had to leave town yesterday and find some peace and solitude to try to clear my head and contemplate where we are and why we are here. The finger-pointing has begun, and the talking heads are busy with telling us their theories. I still need more time to process it, but one thing is clear – the issues that mattered to most Americans were not the issues that we were focused on. Or, at the very least, we did a terrible job of talking to the American people about the gains we have made since the pandemic. The rest of the world stands in awe of the recovery our economy has made, but somehow our voters don’t see it or feel it. I fault our message delivery for that, and that fault lies with all of us in the party - from the county level to the national level. I need more time and am not prepared to place the blame on any one person or group of people and frankly, I don’t think any one group bears the full responsibility. It was all of us. I think we as Democrats lost sight of what regular folks were concerned about – how to pay their bills and put groceries on the table.
We can flesh this out more at our next regular meeting. I’m sure everyone has their opinions and I’m interested in everyone’s take. For now, we must stand strong and do everything we can to protect our Constitution for the next four years. Now is not the time to give up, now is the time to come to the aid of our country as never before.
On a positive note, New Mexico held true to the blue in the Congressional and Senate races. Congratulations to Senator Heinrich, Representatives Stansbury, Leger-Fernandez, and Vasquez for their hard-earned victories. It is clear New Mexicans are happy with our representation in Washington – just not happy with Washington in general.
Let’s lick our wounds and talk. We need help locally, obviously, and we need to develop a strategy to recapture the support of hard-working Americans.
Stand Up! Push Back! Continue the Fight!

“There are moments when I’m deeply, deeply sad,” she said at Harvard. “And there are moments when, yes, even I feel desperation. We all do. But you have to own it. You have to accept it. You have to shed the tears, and then you have to wipe them and get up and fight some more.”
Justice Sonia Sotomayor

Campbell Ranch News
The Campbell Farming Corporation (CFC) and the Town of Edgewood are trying to impose irresponsible development on our East Mountain Community. This time they are using a Minor Subdivision process that relies on the out-of-compliance 1999 Subdivision Ordinance to subdivide the Campbell Ranch property. If approved, the action allows piecemeal and unplanned development, with no commitment to services like water and wastewater, fire and police, unfairly favors the developer by using an outdated ordinance, reduces public notice and public involvement, and fast-tracks final approval. The intent is to end-run the Master Plan Amendment process so CFC can subdivide and sell the Campbell Ranch property without planning, oversight, or regard to impacts on the community. EMPAC believes this action is intended to avoid the Public Involvement process and change the Town’s Subdivision Ordinance so the CFC can change the 2002 Master Plan without your knowledge and concern, including preventing a public hearing.
-
November 12 Town Commission Meeting at 6:00pm, Edgewood Town Hall. Voice your opposition to the CFC application for a Minor Subdivision of Campbell Ranch property during the General Comments portion of the agenda. This Town Commission meeting may be the only opportunity for the general public to oppose the subdivision because the Town stated their intent to limit those who are allowed to comment at public hearings. This limitation may be in effect at the November 21 Public Hearing. Please bring your comments in writing so they will be submitted and included in the public record. Verbal comments on the proposed action at the September 19 PZC meeting were not recorded in the minutes and not included in the public record.
-
November 21 Public Hearing at 6:00pm, Edgewood Town Hall. If you are unable to attend the Public Hearing please send your written opposition to the action to Mr. Brad Hill, now the Edgewood Community Development Director at bhill@edgewood-nm.gov and ask that the PZC Commissioners be copied. Request a reply to ensure that your letter is submitted to the public record. Your letter must be received no later than November 18 to be included in the public information packet and the public record.
