Good morning Democrats!
Old Timers' Day in Estancia was a huge success. Arthur Park is a great gathering place for large or small groups and the turn-out this past Saturday for Old Timers' Day was terrific. Thanks to Sam and Ann Schropp for the DPTC entry in the parade and to Bill and Millie Peifer, Scott Corwin, Bill Boyson and Deborah Raines for setting up and manning our voter registration booth. It was a fun get-together.
With all the news about the indictments, superseding indictments, and indictments to come in the next couple of weeks for the former President, I have been thinking a lot regarding the foundation of our government and its fragility. As John Adams eloquently stated, and I paraphrase because I don’t remember the exact quote, ours is a government of laws, not of men. That concept separates us from virtually every other nation and government. The single, narrow thread that provides the foundation upon which our government rests and upon which it must survive, much less thrive, is that every person is governed by the same rule of law, regardless of who they are. This is true of former presidents, sitting presidents, family members of presidents or congressmen or judges. Every one of us.
I have often thought, and still do think, that our judiciary will be our saving grace. That ultimately, the good folks whose job it is to apply the laws of the land to the acts of men, will be above the fray of partisan politics that polarizes Congress. I have worked with many dedicated law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and judges in my career. Without any exception that currently comes to mind, I have never seen an instance where I felt that any of them allowed their own political persuasion to affect their decision-making pursuing the interests of justice. I realize that all come into their job with their own beliefs and opinions, mostly formed by their environments during their lifetimes. But it has been my experience that they have applied the laws even-handedly regardless of the accused's station in life. Be wary of those that attack the institutions that these dedicated individuals serve. History has shed light on the motivation for such attacks.
I am not blind to the politization of our United States Supreme Court and it both saddens me and frightens me. However, I believe that when it ultimately comes down to applying the laws of the land and to enforcing the concept that in this country no person is above the law, they will do so. For our democracy’s sake, let’s hope so. Keep the faith!
Stand up! Push Back! Vote! It's what separates us from the rest,
Dennis
