Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

July 14, 2025

Hello Fellow Democrats,

“Drawing a line in the sand” is a popular figure of speech for establishing a threshold that, once crossed, action must be taken. When it comes to Trump, some of us saw or heard him cross our personal lines in the sand long before he was ever President the first time. Some will tell you that he crossed their lines with his 2005 misogynistic comment about women, "Grab them by the p***y." For others he crossed the line simply with his constant self-aggrandizing. Anyone with an ego that YUGE must be dangerous.

Some may have voted for him in 2016 and later regretted it when he nearly doubled the National Debt during his first three years in office and then suggested combatting Covid 19 by injecting “antiseptics” like bleach or ingesting cattle de-wormer. There may be some who still supported him in 2020 and even voted for him again in 2024, but lost faith in him when he reneged on his promise to deport “the worst of the worst” and instead had ICE begin targeting immigrants who were hard-working field hands, hotel maids, restaurant kitchen employees and day laborers, since they’re easier to arrest and deport than hardened criminals. Some may have waited until his “Big Beautiful Bill” became a Big Ugly Law, designed to double our National Debt again while kicking people off of Medicaid and shutting down rural hospitals, all to give his fellow billionaires a huge gift?

My question for you, dear reader, is What is YOUR line in the sand? Where do YOU draw the line? What will it take to get YOU off the couch and get active in your local Democratic Party? When will YOU take a stand, by joining a protest demonstration? Will you wait until his administration starts targeting immigrants and citizens alike just because of the color of their skin, or wait until he starts deporting native-born citizens? If so, get off that couch NOW, because that’s already happening. Maybe you’ll wait until a close friend or family member dies in one of the new concentration camps that his Big Ugly Law has money allocated for. Better decide NOW where you’ll draw the line, because once they start arresting anyone who dares to appear in public without their MAGA hat on, it will probably be too late to stop him.

Make a statement NOW by volunteering to join us as we march for freedom and democratic values in the Old Timers’ Parade in Estancia in two weeks.

Stand Up! Push Back! Continue the Fight!

Help Wanted! Old Timers' Day July 26th

Parade Walkers Needed

We are planning for the annual Old Timers' Day event in Estancia on July 26th. We are planning on participating in the parade this year, and will have booth space in the park and will be, once again, giving away backpacks to school children. We are looking for volunteers to help staff the booth in three shifts: Set-up (9 AM to Noon); Lunch (11 AM to 2 PM); and Takedown (2 PM to 5 PM). Contact Millie if you can help!

The "BLUE DOT CREW"

The Blue Dot Crew are Democrats who wear a little blue button! "A blue dot in a sea of red dots!" We, in Torrance County, can feel outnumbered and overwhelmed. We are a blue dot in a red county and will be heard. We will be at the three events this summer handing out blue dot buttons to any Democrat who wants one. They can then add their blue dot to the large Torrance County map. It will be our way to identify other Democrats when you feel alone.
