“For all its imperfections, America is still the beacon to the world,
an ideal to be realized, a promise to be kept.” President Joseph Biden
| Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter December 4, 2023 | |
Good Morning Fellow Democrats:
2024 is officially still four long weeks away, but the 2024 campaign season is already officially underway. Campaigns in a few areas have already begun circulating nominating petitions. The DPTC is hoping to have at least one candidate running in every single race that includes any part of Torrance County during this election cycle and will have the petitions for each of those candidates available for signing at our office in Moriarty as soon as we get them from the campaigns. There are a few things to remember when signing nominating petitions:
- Only individuals registered as Democrats count as valid nominating signatures for candidates seeking to run on the Democratic Party ballot in the June Primary Election.
- You may only sign a petition for one candidate in a given race. If it’s a contested race, with more than one Democrat seeking to run for the same office, signing petitions for more than one candidate can nullify all your signatures in that race.
- Only sign one petition for the candidate of your choice. Campaigns need to keep track of how many signatures they have, and duplicate signatures will throw their counts off.
- Signing a petition for any given candidate does NOT obligate you to vote for that candidate in either the Primary of General Election.
- Unless the candidate is seeking Public Financing, you are not obliged to donate to that candidate.
The petition process is the first step in what is a nearly year-long process leading up to Election Day in November. As most of you are well aware, Democratic candidates in Torrance County will face an uphill battle against entrenched and well-funded Republicans. Our candidates will need all of the help from fellow Democrats that they can get. Campaigns from the national races will be begging for your money and your help as volunteers. While the “big” campaigns certainly need money and volunteers, your local candidates have an even greater need. Please do what you can to help the DPTC help our candidates. Sign those pesky petitions! Donate what you can! Volunteer to help on the campaigns if you’re able. Consider hosting house parties to help our candidates gain more support. Meet our fine candidates and help your friends and neighbors get to know them as well.
Most importantly, STAND UP, PUSH BACK and VOTE!
