Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

November 24, 2025

Hello Fellow Democrats and Antifa Thinkers,

Wow what a week it has been – Marjorie Taylor Green has resigned from Congress, Congress approved releasing the Epstein files, we shall see if those ever see the light of day, Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected mayor of New York City, visited the President and oddly enough Donnie was actually civil to the man, go figure that one out. In my mind the most shocking event of the week was when Donnie threatened to arrest, execute and hang six Democratic members of the Senate, and that is the item I would like to speak to today.

These senators, all high-ranking Veterans, did a video reminding troops that they took an oath to defend the constitution and must refuse “illegal orders”. Please note that the video did not specify which orders the Senators consider to be unlawful, but DJT fired back saying the Senator’s actions are “seditious behavior, punishable by death.” He goes on to say they should be “arrested and put on trial.”

Let’s be clear, the purpose of the video was to point out and remind service members to prepare to be put into difficult situations in the years to come and to understand their oath and obligations to the Constitution. These Senators have plenty to be concerned about, it is the same stuff you and I worry about every day. Stuff like DJT asking if he can order service members to shoot protestors in the leg. DJT sending troops to Chicago and other cities has been declared illegal in federal courts, but he continues to do it. ICE and others have done horrible things in these cities, despicable things that no human being should have to suffer. The point is that when troops are faced with a situation, they have to respond immediately with little time to give the situation much thought. A difficult situation for sure! Imagine how a trooper might feel when he realizes he must disobey an order! The purpose of the video was to prepare the troops for whatever unlawful order DJT may give in the future. The truth of the matter is that we may need these troops to stand up and defend us someday. If DJT turns the troops against us for whatever reason, we will depend upon them to do the right thing, we will depend on them to obey the Constitution. We all know that the Constitution prohibits the President from turning military troops against its citizens. DJT knows it too, but this man knows no boundaries, and he clearly does not give a damn what the Constitution says. He wants to be a dictator, and he will go to any means to achieve that.

It is also disturbing that not one Republican stood up and said that DJT’s behavior was uncalled for and inappropriate. That certainly says a multitude of things about them.

It was courageous what these six Senators did, and I, for one, applaud them all. God help us if we are ever in that situation, God help us!

I want to remind everyone that we are still collecting food for Bethel Storehouse. Please, if you are able, donate to Bethel so they can help those in need. Drop your donations off at the DPTC office Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday from noon to 4 pm.

I wish each of you a very heartfelt Happy Thanksgiving!

Stand Up! Push Back! Continue the Fight!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!

Refute the Republican Rhetoric

On Tuesday, Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) posted a video of herself and five other members of Congress, all of whom are either military veterans or former members of the federal government’s intelligence agencies. In the video these six patriots reminded members of our military that the oath that they swore . . . the oath that all of us who are veterans swore at least once . . . was an oath of loyalty to the Constitution and not to any one man. They also reminded members of our military that they not only CAN disobey any unlawful orders that they’re given but actually have a DUTY to disobey unlawful orders.

On Thursday, Trump reacted to that post in his usual ranting all-caps style with “It’s called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL” and stated that sedition was punishable by death. Therein lies the lie. “Seditious behavior” is defined by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a bipartisan think tank, as "conduct or speech that incites individuals to violently rebel against the authority of the government." You know . . . something like telling your supporters to march down the street to the U.S. Capitol Building where Congress is about to certify an election and “fight like hell”.

It's a bald-faced lie to call what Senators Slotkin and Kelly and Representatives Deluzio, Goodlander, Houlahan, and Crow did “sedition”. It was a wake-up call for members of our military to remember the Nuremburg Trials and the trial of Lt. William Calley as Trumps orders become closer to “unlawful”, if they’re not already there. What these brave legislators did was an act of patriotism, not an act of sedition.

Looking for Democrats to run in 2026

With the 2025 non-partisan elections behind us, the DPTC is now looking at the 2026 Torrance County elections. These elections are partisan, but in the recent past there have only been Republicans on the ballot for the General Election since it’s been difficult to persuade Democrats to run in a county where it’s perceived that only Republicans can win. Because of this perception, there have been times when Democrats want to run, but feel that they have to change their party affiliation to “Republican” to get elected. In 2026 we’d like to change this perception, but we need brave Democrats to step up and “put their hats in the ring”. Here are the positions that will be up for election in 2026 along with the estimated annual salary:

County Commissioner District 1 – Pays $27,570.

County Commissioner District 2 – Pays $27,570.

Sheriff – Pays $72,164.

Assessor – Pays $70,031.

Probate Judge – Pays $24,180.

Magistrate Judge – Pays $79,537

All of the salaries shown are the current salaries which will likely go up slightly with a “cost of living” increase at the first of the year. The DPTC stands ready to assist you as much as possible, should you choose to step up and run for one of these positions! Contact Bill Peifer if you have any interest in running.
