Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

January 5, 2026

Hello Fellow Democrats and Antifa Thinkers,

Here we are once again in another massive chaos situation with DJT. I honesty believe that the man and his cronies thrive on it, life is boring to them unless there is constant chaos going on around him. So they go out and create chaos to satisfy their desire. I am sure there is a psychological term for that, but I do not know what it is. The invasion of Venezuela has created chaos worldwide, a number of other countries are very nervous. Mexico, Greenland, Cuba and others are all fearful that a precedent has been set for more US intervention. I can’t blame them; I would be nervous too.

Sadly, DJT did not invade Venezuela because he cares about its people or the negative impact Maduro has had on their lives. If he cared, he would not be sending Venezuelan illegal aliens to death camps. If he cared, he would be sending aid to help stabilize their lives. Let’s face it, Maduro is a terrible nasty man, a dictator who has enriched himself off his own people and manipulated elections to stay in office. Maduro and DJT are one and the same, terrible people who will expense the lives of others for their own personal gain. And now DJT wants a piece of Maduro’s pie. What flavor would you say that pie would be? Well, it is OIL baby, the thick, black, crude oil pie. Donnie and his sons are hoping to enrich themselves once again from the world’s richest oil field located in Venezuela. DJT is telling Venezuela’s vice-president, Delcy Rodeiguez “to comply with US wishes – or else.” Or else what? Will he murder her, torture her, disappear her, what exactly do he and the cronies have in mind? The Atlantic states, “Trump threatens Venezuela’s new leader with a fate worse than Maduro’s. Trump made clear that he would not stand for Rodriguez’s defiant rejection of the armed US intervention.”

It is a well-known fact that China has spent billons of dollars on Venezuelan oil. They did so partially to stabilize their own economy and most importantly to assure themselves of a reliable source of oil. How is all this going to play out with the Chinese? I am sure they are going to have a thing or two to say about all this. Are we staring down the barrel of World War III? Who knows where Putin is in all this. We all know Putin has something big on Donnie, maybe Putin is behind all of this. And never mind the fact that none of Donnie’s actions were approved by Congress, which is an impeachable offence. Here we go – more chaos. I thought when DJT was elected that we could survive the next 4 years, that we would be ok, that we could repair all the damage done. Now, I don’t know, I just don’t know where the USA or our World is headed.

It is mind blowing that our President will spend our tax dollars on this unnecessary chaos while many people in this country are now facing the doubling and possible tripling of their health care premiums. Once again, DJT cares about only himself, his family and his cronies. Sadly, we are all going to have to pull together to take care of each other; our government does not care about us. As heartbreaking as that is, it is the truth today. God Help Us!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!

Refute the Republican Rhetoric

By Bill Peifer

Early Saturday morning the U.S. miliary staged a coup in Venezuela, kidnapping Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in what Trump called a "large scale strike", replacing Maduro with a puppet government temporarily headed by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez. Although Trump claims that Rodriguez was sworn in on Saturday, sources report that she was in Russia at the time, so it’s very unlikely that she had been sworn in on Saturday as Trump claimed. Trump went on to claim that the U.S. would be “running Venezuela” in the immediate future and claimed that Rodriguez had said she is "willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again." Boy, does THAT line sound familiar! But apparently, it’s a familiar LIE, since an outraged Vice President Rodriguez took to Venezuelan TV Saturday afternoon to demand that Trump release Maduro, who she says is still the legitimate president of Venezuela.

Now the question needs to be answered as to why the months of blowing up civilian Venezuelan boats, with the killing of well over a hundred Venezuelans, weeks of saber-rattling, followed by the pirating of a Venezuelan oil tanker, the blowing up of a Venezuelan shipping facility and now a ground assault by Delta Force to completely change the government of Venezuela to one that is really an extension of Trump’s heavy-handed will were necessary. Trump and his principal aides have offered several conflicting reasons for all of this which comes from a man who claims to be the “Peace President”.

When Trump’s acts of aggression were limited to blowing up small boats, killing all aboard, the story out of the White House and Pentagon was that it was to keep drugs out of the U.S., although experts say the cocaine that passes through Venezuela winds up mostly in Europe while fentanyl is sourced from China via Mexico, mostly carried across the border by U.S. citizens. Trump also claimed that Maduro was emptying Venezuela’s prisons and “mental institutions” into the U.S., although there’s no evidence of that claim. Then Trump accused Maduro of "stealing" U.S. oil and land, seemingly alluding to work done in the 1970s in Venezuela by Western oil companies before the government there opted to nationalize its reserves, eventually forcing out American companies. So, with Trump’s help, it would seem that U.S. companies will be taking back the oil that Venezuela took from them after they stole it from Venezuela. I suppose that makes some sense, in a bizarre form of “Trump logic”.

But Secretary of State Marc Rubio has offered a more general, and far more plausible, explanation than simply Trumps claims on oil reserves, calling Maduro’s presidency “intolerable” because it was cooperating with foreign “terrorist and criminal elements” instead of the Trump administration’s terrorist and criminal elements. The son of Cuban immigrants, Rubio has staked much of his political career on his opposition to the communist Cuban government. He has long blamed Maduro as a primary source of “instability in the region”, including in Cuba where the regime still relies on Venezuela’s cheap oil.

So, choose whichever explanation you like, but at least one or two, possibly all three versions, must be lies. “Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”

Looking for Democrats to run in 2026

With the 2025 non-partisan elections behind us, the DPTC is now looking at the 2026 Torrance County elections. These elections are partisan, but in the recent past there have only been Republicans on the ballot for the General Election since it’s been difficult to persuade Democrats to run in a county where it’s perceived that only Republicans can win. Because of this perception, there have been times when Democrats want to run, but feel that they have to change their party affiliation to “Republican” to get elected. In 2026 we’d like to change this perception, but we need brave Democrats to step up and “put their hats in the ring”. Here are the positions that will be up for election in 2026 along with the estimated annual salary:

County Commissioner District 1 – Pays $27,570.

County Commissioner District 2 – Pays $27,570.

Sheriff – Pays $72,164.

Assessor – Pays $70,031.

Probate Judge – Pays $24,180.

Magistrate Judge – Pays $79,537

All of the salaries shown are the current salaries which will likely go up slightly with a “cost of living” increase at the first of the year. The DPTC stands ready to assist you as much as possible, should you choose to step up and run for one of these positions! Contact Bill Peifer if you have any interest in running.
