Democratic Party of Torrance County Newsletter

March 2, 2026

Hello fellow Democrats,

Here we are in another one of Donnie’s wars. This one is a joint effort with Isreal’s Netanyahu. We know that both Donnie and Netanyahu want regime change in Iran, and granted the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, now deceased, was a nasty authoritarian leader, as was Maduro in Venezuela, but is any of that our business? Why is Donnie not concentrating on the issues at home? If the truth were to be told, it is probably more about oil than anything else. Afterall, that is Donnie’s favorite thing to think about. There is discussion that the reason for blowing stuff up in Iran is about their building up of nuclear weapons and advanced missile systems. That may be true, but the fact is that Obama had a treaty in place that prevented that buildup from occurring and Donnie did away with it. He does away with anything worthwhile that Democrats create, especially Obama. Donnie has said that we may be in Iran for quite some time. Here we are in another long-term war without congressional approval. Umm let’s see, I think that makes it illegal! At least George W Bush had the decency to get congressional approval before he started blowing up Iran in 2002, but sadly, we all know that was nothing but smoke and mirrors.

There continue to be rumors of Donnie calling off the 2026 mid-term elections and using this Iran thing as an emergency to not hold elections. This is the really big deal for us, we lose our ability to vote and we may lose it all, fascism has then won!

This is one of the reasons we are working diligently to turn Torrance County BLUE and holding the Denim & Diamonds event. I am proud to say that we now have Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales secured as our keynote speaker. We are getting more candidates signing up for information tables and tickets to the public are starting to move. If you have not purchased your ticket, just click on the QR Code on the flyer below and join us for an evening of live music, dancing if the mood strikes you, catered dinner and lots of political conversation.

Please don’t forget that we are still collecting food for Bethel Storehouse.

Standup! Push Back! Continue the Fight!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!

Refute the Republican Rhetoric

By Bill Peifer

As nearly everybody in the world knows at this point, on Saturday morning, Donald Trump ordered, the U.S. and Israeli military forces to launch a massive air attack against Iran, targeting and killing that country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with 5-10 top leaders. According to International Law, the intentional killing of a foreign head of state by another nation is an “Act of War” and is a de facto “Declaration of War” by the attacking country. Of course, Congress hasn’t declared war against Iran, so the question of whether or not this attack on Iran is a “war” or just a “special military operation”, as Russia calls its invasion of Ukraine is one for lawyers who are well-versed in International Law to figure out.

But the attack on Iran isn’t the lie I want to discuss this week. Rather, it’s the action that makes lies out of a plethora of previous Trump statements. Specifically:

  • In his election night victory speech in November of 2024, Trump said “I’m not going to start wars, I’m going to stop wars,”
  • In his Inaugural address two and a half months later, he told the nation “My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier. That’s what I want to be: a peacemaker and a unifier.
  • In that same speech, he added “our power will stop all wars and bring a new spirit of unity to a world that has been angry, violent and totally unpredictable.”

Fast forward five months to June when Trump ordered a massive attack on Iran’s nuclear research facilities in the Iranian mountains. Some administration officials had claimed, without providing evidence, that Iran was “only weeks, possibly only days,” away from developing a nuclear weapon and long-range missile capability. This was despite the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) saying that the Iranians were only working on peaceful nuclear capabilities for generation of electricity. Whether that June attack was justified is an argument for another time, but following the attack Trump released a series of statements touting its success.

  • On the day of the attack, he claimed that “Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.”
  • Three days later he doubled down on that comment, stating “It was my great honor to Destroy All Nuclear facilities & capability, and then, STOP THE WAR!”
  • A White House spokesperson claimed that the operation “set the Iranian nuclear program back years, and probably decades.”

So, here we are again, just a little over eight months later, with a Trump aide claiming that Iran was “only a matter of days away” from being able to build a bomb, and Trump using that rationale to try to justify yet another war that isn’t quite a declared war. After Venezuela, Syria, Nigeria and now Iran for a second time in less than a year, it’s not a very good message from someone who desperately wants the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to be putting out there.
