Hello Fellow Democrats and Antifa Thinkers,
With the filing day for federal and statewide candidates passed and filing day for district-level candidates just a week away, we are now fully into the 2026 election campaign season. It should come as no surprise to anyone that this is not my “first rodeo”, by a long shot. This spring marks 58 years since my first political campaign. Over the decades I’ve held at least a dozen different positions within the party or on various campaigns. In all of those years of working with many candidates, I never EVER seriously considered being a candidate myself. I’m built for behind the scenes grunt work . . . not up-front campaigning.
BUT . . . for well over a year now, I’ve been actively trying to recruit possible candidates for the two County Commissioner positions on the ballot in Torrance County this year and have had absolutely zero success. Nobody has stepped up, despite my offers of pro bono assistance. Since I feel very strongly that we absolutely need to have candidates on the ballot, even in a losing effort, I’ve reluctantly decided to be a candidate for County Commissioner District Two in the upcoming election cycle myself.
Although I’ve never been a candidate before, I have been a campaign manager several times, so I’ve got a pretty good idea of what needs to be done just to get on the ballot and then to win. Short term, I need signatures on a petition form, and I need them quickly! Filing day for this position is March 3rd. That’s next Tuesday. That gives me eight days, so I need to move fast.
This coming week is not going to be a good week for me to get things done, due to appointments in the city on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. I will be at the office on Wednesday, Saturday and next Monday from noon to 4 with my petition form for people to sign. So please, if you are registered to vote in District 2, I would greatly appreciate you stopping by to sign to get me on the ballot for the June Primary. If you can’t come by the office but want to sign, email or text me and I’ll be happy to figure out how to get your signature on a petition.
STAND UP! PUSH BACK! HELP A CAMPAIGN!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Refute the Republican Rhetoric
By Bill Peifer
With the Supreme Court weighing in on Donald Trump’s economy-killing tariffs on Friday, and with Trump’s toddler-like temper tantrum over the court handing him the most stinging defeat of his presidency, his insanely long rant, calling the justices names and accusing them of being “disloyal”, seemed like the obvious source for this week’s Trump Lies column. But then Saturday came along and I decided on something less serious. Indeed, it would be a funny story if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s coming from Trump’s tiny hands on his gold-plated phone.
First the back story. Apparently, either on Friday or early Saturday a U.S. Navy sailor on board one of our submarines, conducting routine exercises about seven miles off the coast of Greenland, took very ill. Details of his illness haven’t been disclosed, but he was obviously sick enough to warrant hospitalization, so a Danish Defence Seahawk helicopter was dispatched to airlift the sailor to a hospital in Nuuk, where he is receiving excellent medical care, at no charge since Denmark and Greenland have free medical care.
Now, before we get to Trump’s Lie, let me remind you that this is one U.S. sailor from a U.S. submarine, not even a Greenlander. You’d think that Trump would be grateful, maybe thanking the Danish and Greenlandic governments for their help and maybe even offering to compensate them for any expenses incurred. But that’s not Trump’s style. Here’s what he posted on his Untruth Social platform:
“Working with the fantastic Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we are going to send a great hospital boat to Greenland to take care of the many people who are sick, and not being taken care of there. It’s on the way!!! President DJT”
Some of the lies here are pretty obvious, with the first being the fact that one sailor is not “many people” and the second being that he is “being taken care of there” quite well. Then there’s the implication that the “many people” are Greenlanders plus the fact that Trump claims to be working with the Governor of Louisiana when both of our two hospital ships sail out of California but are currently docked in an Alabama port. I suppose that we can forgive Commander-in-Chief Bone Spurs for the fact that he doesn’t know the difference between what our navy calls a “boat” and what it calls a “ship”.
At least he was able to find a digital rendering of a painting of one of our hospital ships, the USNS Mercy, sailing into the sunset to attach to his post, but the Mercy cannot possibly be “on the way” for at least three more days since its crew is on liberty in its home port city of San Diego.
