Hello Fellow Democrats and ANTIFA followers,
Today is Memorial Day. It’s the traditional start of the summer season, with backyard barbeques and other summer events, and that’s all well and good. But please remember that wishing people a “Happy Memorial Day” is sort of inappropriate, since Memorial Day was never meant to be a “happy” day. It’s a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives in service to our country. And, while it’s never inappropriate to thank a veteran for their service, Memorial Day isn’t a special day for that. Veterans who survived their period of service have their own day . . . Veterans Day. Memorial Day is to honor those who didn’t make it home alive.
Now, back to politics! Early Voting is now in full swing. See the times and locations for Early Voting and for Election Day voting in the graphic below. A lot of people skip the primary election and then complain about their lack of choices when the General Election happens in November. The primary election is your opportunity to have a say in what choices we have in November. Many Democrats who are running for office are unopposed, but the really key races, like Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State and Land Commissioner, have more than just one person to choose from, so your input into who the Democratic nominee for those positions will be is important.
Please go to https://dptc-nm.org/index.php/elections for a list of all the candidates, with a listing of their websites following, and get to know the candidates you’ll be choosing from.
STAND UP, PUSH BACK AND VOTE!

TRUMP LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING!
Refute the Republican Rhetoric
By Bill Peifer
This week’s Lie of the Week . . . actually (as is usually the case) multiple lies . . . can be found in his 7:49 AM post on Untruth Social on Friday, where he said:
“I gave up a lot of money in allowing the just announced Anti-Weaponization Fund to go forward. I could have settled my case, including the illegal release of my Tax Returns and the equally illegal BREAK IN of Mar-a-Lago, for an absolute fortune. Instead, I am helping others, who were so badly abused by an evil, corrupt, and weaponized Biden Administration, receive, at long last, JUSTICE! President DJT”
The first big lie is that he claims to have given up a lot of money. It’s a lie because of the second lie, where he says he could have settled his case. While it’s true that Donald Trump the plaintiff, the Donald Trump Department of Justice and the Donald Trump IRS could have come to a agreement on his case where he was essentially suing himself for $10 billion. But “settling” the suit would have required court approval of the agreement, and if any court were to approve such a deal it would be immediately appealed.
The next lie deals with him implying that the “illegal release” of his tax returns in 2017 was because he was targeted by evildoers. He wasn’t targeted. Here’s what happened: Remember who was president in 2017 when this happened? Donald Trump’s Department of Education had a data sharing tool with weak security protocols. Hackers were able to use a vulnerability in that tool to use it to access the personal data of approximately 100,000 taxpayers, including Trump, on the servers of the Trump IRS. He was simply one in 100,000 to have their data accessed, thanks to incompetence by Trump appointees, but it included his tax returns for roughly a decade, the very returns which he claimed during the 2016 campaign he couldn’t release, like every other candidate had done for at least half a century, because he was supposedly “under audit”.
It turns out that he was NOT under audit. He simply didn’t want those returns to be made public because they showed that he had paid very little, and in some years, zero taxes, belying his claims of paying “millions of dollars every year” in taxes. The “illegal BREAK IN of Mar-a-Lago”? Completely legal, with properly obtained and executed warrants, looking for the classified documents that he stole from the government in 2021, and actually not part of his original $10 billion lawsuit against himself to begin with.
If this “deal” goes through it would “compensate” the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and other right-wing radicals who stormed the Capitol on 1/6/2021 for the pain and suffering they endured by being arrested and, in a very few cases, sentenced to time in prison for their treasonous acts. Paying people for treason is pretty bad, but the worst part of the “deal” that Trump is trying to make with himself is that his Acting Attorney General is putting a clause into the paperwork that states that Trump, his kids and his companies will “forever” be exempt from EVER being audited by the IRS, allowing the biggest tax cheats in history to be able to cheat even bigger in the future without ever having to worry about an audit again.
