PROP 13 REFORM: Sign the Petition Today & Support Our Schools! |
This is an issue which has negatively impacted California schools and students for the last 47 years and it is time to change that. As citizens and parents, I ask you to get involved and sign this petition and share it with your community.
Here is more from a group leading the reform charge, Evolve California:
Proposition 13 was passed in 1978 to protect homeowners. Unfortunately, Prop. 13 created massive loopholes for corporations, allowing them to avoid paying fair property taxes even when their properties change hands. This large corporate giveaway hurts homeowners, students, and all Californians. We need to close the loophole and make corporations pay their fair share. According to the Legislative Analyst's Office, requiring corporations to pay property taxes based on the current value of their properties would generate at least $6 billion each year for California, including $2.5 billion per year for education.

NEPAL EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND: Please consider a donation. |
Nepal experienced a devastating, tragic earthquake this past weekend - as of this time, over 4,000 people have perished and countless houses and historic monuments are in rubble. Devin Adhikari's (K2) father is from Nepal and is spearheading a donation drive to support this cause.
How can you help? Please consider one of the following:
- Make an online-donation: SEBS* or the Ama Foundation**.
- Bring your family's donations in THIS WEEK for the jar outside the Principal's office. All donations will go directly to the Ama Foundation.
* SEBS is a grassroots volunteer-based 501(c) (3) organization without bureaucratic expenses (100% will go directly to the relief effort and 100% is tax deductible), and will be providing "immediate" medical relief, as well as food and shelter.
** The Ama Foundation is a grassroots US-based 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing the most underprivileged children of Nepal with a loving home, education, and healthy live, and is expected to provide home and education to many children that will be orphaned because of this earthquake.

STEAM LAB Update - read all the news about our new initiative! |
STEAM News Our STEAM Team of parents, teachers and principal Bass are working hard to continue, improve and expand STEAM at Miraloma. Exciting things are happening and STEAM updates are shared on the STEAM Section of our website.
STEAM Lab Our STEAM Team has been participating in the SFUSD iLab design program to imagine and develop the design of the new space. The iLab program uses a Design Thinking process, championed by the Stanford D-School and commonly used by leading product design teams. This process helps us envision how to best prepare our kids for a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive world by sparking their interests in STEAM with our new lab. [read more]
Volunteer! The completion of the new STEAM Lab (targeted for the beginning of August 2015) will just be the start. That is when we will really need your help to turn the room from an empty class room into the STEAM Lab we envision. Contact us to help and/or to give input for the new lab!
