 DEC 17 & 31: Holiday Food Drive |
Our school is hosting a holiday food drive. Please place food in the Food Bank barrel outside the office to help feed the hungry in San Francisco.
THE FOOD WILL BE PICKED UP ON DEC 17.
Most needed items are: canned tuna, canned meat, peanut butter, soup, chili, beans, low sugar cereal, canned fruit and vegetables, whole grain rice, pasta & oats.
In addition to the food barrel at school, Miraloma has a virtual Food Drive UNTIL DEC 31. Donate online! For every $1 you donate, the SF Food Bank is able to distribute $5 worth of food - enough for 3 meals.

| DEC 18: Blue Bear Music Registration - sign up online now! |
The next 10-week session of Blue Bear classes will start the week of January 11. Classes are twice a week and are offered at a reduced rate of $150 for Miraloma students grade 3-5.
- Returning/advanced students - Register now for ROCK BAND CLASS on Mon/Wed @2-2:50pm

| JAN 5: Hour of Code - come make cool games! |

The HOUR OF CODE is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to de-mystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. It is coming to Miraloma on
Tuesday, January 5 -- the FIRST Tuesday after winter break.
Please sign up by grade level using the links below. Class will be held at the
new STEAM Lab (aka the Learning Center downstairs).
Grades K-2 will be at 2:00pm -

| JAN 14: Register siblings for Kinder 2016-17! |
SFUSD application forms for incoming Kindergarten siblings and outgoing fifth graders who are applying to an SFUSD middle school can be picked up at the office.
Forms need to be turned in to our secretary, Ms. Mallen by January 14, 2016 (or to the district by Jan 15).

| JAN 15: MEEP Specialty Class Registration Deadline |

Open registration for MEEP Spring Specialty Classes has been extended to 1/15/2016.
Once a class reaches its maximum student enrollment, we will no longer be able to accept additional applications.
Our Specialty Classes are:
- Tree Frog Treks- FULL
- Art Spark - 4 spots available
- Lego - 6 spots available
- Dance - 5 spots available
- Fencing - 5 spots available
- Musical Theater with Blue Bear Music - 5 spots available
- Math Club - 7 spots available
- Comic Book Making (This class will be most likely be canceld by 1/15/2016 due to low enrollment.)

| JAN 18: Celebrate National Compliment Day! |
Learning and understanding how to give and receive a genuine compliment is a social skill that is often forgotten, or is not given sincerely in our ever-busy world. Words of appreciation or thanks, that are communicated in a sincere and specific manner, go a long way toward building and maintaining positive relationships with others.
Two of the Room 5 student Social Skills groups have been working on the art of giving and receiving compliments. Sunday, January 24th, marks National Compliment Day for 2016 and we would like to share some of what we have learned and practiced with the school community. If you'd like to participate we will have information and materials posted outside Room 5, the week of January 18.

| FUNDRAISING: Host a Sign-Up for Auction 2016! |
What is a Sign-Up?
It is a party/event hosted by Miraloma families as a donation to the auction. At the auctio
n, people sign up for parties by bidding on a slot.
Last year these
"Sign-Ups" brought in over $75,000 at our auction - about a third of our total earnings! We hope we'll get as many fun Sign-Ups as possible for our upcoming auction on March 5, 2016!
What kind of Party/Events can you host? Whatever you like! Adult-only, kids-only, or family events. In the past, we've had Italian, Indian, Peruvian, Caribbean, and Brazilian food-fests, beer and wine tastings, Dutch and South American cocktail parties, and game nights for the adults. For kids, there have been science, Lego, duct-tape, bowling, sleepover parties, and a lot more. Contact us for more information/ideas.
