Please bring flowers from your garden for the Annual Teacher & Staff Appreciation Luncheon! Drop off outside the cafeteria on May 12 at 8am.

This PTA-sponsored luncheon serves 55, including the after-care programs and all Miraloma staff.

MAY 13: SQII Survey DUE

Please fill out the important SQII Family Survey by Friday, May 13. It is part of the School Quality Improvement Index (SQII) and is one way the SFUSD and the State of California are measuring the Culture and Climate of our Miraloma.

MAY 20: Zeitgeist Miraloma Teacher Appreciation Day

Parents, staff, teachers! Come enjoy a burger and beer at Zeitgeist o n Friday, May 20th at 3:30 pm to celebrate our amazing teachers!

We'll also celebrate Mr. Bass and send him off with a big thank you.

Through the last three years of helping in the classroom I have come to realize the amount of work that our teachers give to us and our children and wanted to organize something to celebrate them.

I have teamed up with our PTA to make this event happen and cover the costs for the teachers. Anyone who wants to come hang out and celebrate these amazing teachers is welcome to do so, the more the merrier!!

MESSAGE from Mr. Mendonca

Dear Miraloma Community,

I am writing with both sadness and excitement with the news that I will be moving to Portland, Oregon over the summer, and will not be back at Miraloma for the 2016/17 school year. This move has been a long time coming, both because I have family in Portland, and because Geo and I made long-term plans to move several years ago. Geo received an amazing job offer in the Portland area, and it is an opportunity we cannot pass up.

I have been at Miraloma for the past six school years, and I believe that I will never again find a school community such as ours. The staff and families at Miraloma support a public school in a way that I never thought possible before finding myself here. Miraloma is a school dedicated to the idea that no matter the student, we can come together to help them achieve more than even they thought they could; dedicated to the idea that our students are the most precious thing to us because they represent what could be.

Although I would love to stay here at Miraloma, here in San Francisco, and here in California, my wife and I would like to start a family and buy a house of our own. While I wish it were the case, it simply isn't something we can do in much of the Bay Area.

I will miss all of the students and families I've had the fortune to get to know during my time here, and I know that our amazing staff and administration will be thoughtful and deliberate in their choice to fill the vacant position I leave. I am confident that your amazing first grade and kindergarten students will have just as an amazing second-grade year as any I could provide them.
