DEC 14: Early Release Day
Our next Early Release Day is tomorrow, Thursday, Dec 14th. Please plan to pick up your student(s) by 11:20 AM. If they are in an after school program, those programs begin early at 11:20 AM. Thank you!
DEC 20: Staff Holiday Gift
It's the holidays and we want to give a gift of thanks to the  more than 35 hard-working Miraloma school staff members who work tirelessly on behalf of our children. 

These are the folks who support our teachers and our school and interact with our kids every day -- people like the librarian, the custodial staff, the lunchroom staff, the counselors, the secretary, the coach and everyone else. We are asking families to contribute to a cash gift to the staff and hope that you will consider donating an amount that makes sense for your family.  

We also want to take this opportunity to thank you -- our Miraloma families. We want to thank you for all of the money and time and resources you donate throughout the year to make sure our school is a great place for our children to be. We deeply appreciate all that our community does and gives.

DEC 21: 2018-2019 SFUSD Applications due soon!
6th grade and Kinder Sibling Applications: The Educational Placement Center (EPC) requests that parents turn in applications at the school office by Dec 21, the last day before the break. The EPC processes thousands of applications during Jan 8-12. Help eliminate long lines at 555 Franklin St and speed up processing times by submitting it ASAP and directly to me.

DEC 22-JAN 7: Winter Break - No School
As a reminder, Winter Break will begin Friday, December 22nd and continue through January 7th. School resumes on January 8th at 7:50am.

FUNDRAISING: Host a Sign-Up for Auction 2018!
What is a Sign-Up? It is a party/event hosted by Miraloma families as a donation to the auction. At the Auction, people sign up for parties by bidding on a slot.

Last year these "Sign-Ups" brought in over $100,000 at our Auction - about a third of our total earnings! We hope we'll get as many fun Sign-Ups as possible for our upcoming Auction on March 3, 2018!
 
What kind of Party/Events can you host? Whatever you like! Adult-only, kids-only, or family events. In the past, we've had Italian, Indian, Peruvian, Caribbean, and Brazilian food-fests, beer and wine tastings, Dutch and South American cocktail parties, and game nights for the adults. For kids, there have been science, Lego, duct-tape, bowling, sleepover parties, and a lot more. Contact us for more information/ideas.

School-Wide Cleanup Day a Success!
Thank you Miraloma Community! Our School Clean-Up Day this past Saturday (12/9) was a great success. The Building & Grounds Committee was joined by approximately 30 volunteers who deep cleaned our school. Our area rugs were vacuumed and deep cleaned; surfaces in the rooms and hallways were wiped down/disinfected; common bathrooms were deep-cleaned along with many of the in-room bathrooms; in addition, our cafeteria and gym were scrubbed. If you weren't able to come out this time, be on the lookout for our next deep-cleaning in the spring. Many hands make light work.

Miraloma Needs You! Please consider volunteering!
Volunteers Needed!

We need Yearbook Leads and Classroom Auction Leads for each classroom. The Arts Committee is hoping to have all classroom volunteers in place before the Winter break. 

Yearbook Leads needed for each classroom! Collect or take photos to create a single page of fun class moments such as: Halloween pictures, field trips, working on projects. Using any basic program, Photoshop or MS Word, we need one 8.5x11 JPG per classroom. These pages usually only take a few hours to make and are due the first week in April. 

Classroom Auction Art Leads for each classroom! Create a single collective art project to sell at the Miraloma Auction. The position involves communication with your teacher, 1 to 2 visits in to the classroom, and possible framing for completion. Past projects have ranged from a collection of simple line drawings, matted and framed, to more elaborate metalwork or paper-folding, sculptures, furniture, handprints, mosaics and portraits. Prices for projects start at $250, with some individual pieces bringing in over $1000 for our school! This is a fun way to interact with the kids and help them to work collaboratively. All art pieces must be in by February 16th.
