JUNE 1: FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE + PTA MEETING

Our last PTA meeting of the year will take place right after our last First Friday Coffee on Friday, June 1st.

8:00 AM - 1st Friday Coffee
8:15 AM - PTA Meeting

The Hospitality Committee appreciates your homemade or store-bought pastries for our last First Friday Coffee of the year.

PLEASE READ: The PTA board has provisionally approved a request from teachers to use our reserve funds to hire an Academic Response to Intervention Facilitator (ARIF). This position will add to the staff's current capacity to monitor student progress and provide targeted, intensive instruction designed to accelerate learning for designated groups of struggling students, including those with special needs. The ARIF provides direct intervention services to students, supports classroom teachers, and coordinates with other staff to help all students achieve their full potential. Teachers believe that adding this position will help them more effectively meet the needs of all of our students.

This request now needs to be approved by the PTA membership at our June 1 meeting.  If you have any questions you'd like to ask before the meeting please ask a PTA board member or email below.

Testing for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders continues through Friday, June 1. Students are almost all finished with the Language Arts Portion of the test and have moved on to the Math portion. Testing schedules are different for every class; ask your teacher for additional information. Please make sure 3rd-5th graders are in school during this period of time and thank you for encouraging them to try their best!
You can read more about our state test here.

JUNE 5: FIFTH GRADE PROMOTION
Along with elections (in our gymnasium), our Fifth Grade Promotion will take place on  Tues, June 5th
  • 8:00-9:00 am: Promotion Ceremony in the Auditorium
  • 9:00-10:00 am: Reception in the Cafeteria
We have limited seating in our auditorium so  we can only allow for only  2 people per family  to attend   t o help ensure that all parents can fit . We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. We have explored the use of other spaces, but many schools are holding similar events the same week, so our options are limited.

Following the reception, some families may choose to take their 5th graders out for a celebration, but there are also many students who stay behind and have a lighter afternoon of school.   If you choose to leave early with your child, be sure to sign them out in the office!

SUMMER CHICKEN CARE
fuzzy-chick.jpg Just because school is out for the summer, that doesn't mean our dear chickens don't need love and attention!

Sign up here to help the chickens this summer

And here's some Miraloma Trivia! Two chickens were born in Ms. Santos' Kindergarten class in 2009: the black & white one and one of the feather-footed chickens. Former Miraloma parent Deb Burdulis named them Chickey and Cheepy, as the latter was always cheeping in class.

The other two feather-footed chickens were born the following year in a different classroom. Older students named them Overcast and Sunshine. One has the nickname "Pecky" because she pecks a lot.
