Mary Director's Message
Dear Friends of DSABC,

With the first quarter of the 2016-17 school year completed, DSABC is off to busy and productive start.

The mentor recruitment efforts from our partner companies has been robust this fall. We've presented information on DSABC's One-on-One Mentoring and Workplace Learning E-Mentoring programs to the employees of Union Savings Bank, Pitney Bowes, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Cartus resulting in 20 new mentors to start the school year. Additionally, DSABC is excited to participate in the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce Business to Business Showcase, being held on Thursday, November 17th. If your company would like more information on getting involved with DSABC, we'd love the opportunity to meet with you. DSABC continues to maintain an extensive waitlist of students in need of a mentor.  (One on One Program: 50+-ongoing and Workplace Learning: 50)

Are you a mentor or student who loves to share your mentoring experience? DSABC has an opportunity for you. As part of our Marketing/Outreach efforts, DSABC is in the process of organizing a speakers bureau where volunteers be available to join DSABC Director and/or Board members to present at meetings with prospective companies or community groups. If you are interested in learning more about getting involved, please contact me at or Public Relations Committee Chair, Sara Bollert at

Thank you for your continued support of DSABC. As we are about to embark on the holiday season, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving, joyous Holidays, and a healthy New Year!

Despite increasing student needs and local taxpayers paying 70 cents of every dollar in the city's education budget, Danbury has the fifth lowest per-student spending in the state.
Why? The answer lies with Connecticut's broken school finance system.
Learn more about school finance in Danbury with a  collection of resources  from the  Connecticut School Finance Project , a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to identify solutions to Connecticut's school funding challenges. And find out why Connecticut's current school finance system is unfair to the students, schools, taxpayers, and community of Danbury.

The Annual Carl Bailey Community Asset Builder Award is given to an individual or organization that has impacted our communities in a way that increases the 40 Developmental Assets for youth.

Past recipients include programs that provide opportunities for youth to contribute to the betterment of their community ,encouraging adults to connect with youth in a meaningful way,  good old fashioned positive role modeling and letting youth know that they need to be advocates for one another.

It is very important that we adults understand that building developmental assets is not about "fixing"  kids with programs. Instead, Asset Builders promote strong relationships and highlight the positive things youth are already bringing to the table. DSABC is a perfect example of these attributes. The mentors walk this walk in the purest form.

DSABC wishes to thank Allison Fulton, Executive Director of Housatonic Valley Coalition on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (HVCASA) and Carl Bailey, Founder of Danbury Grassroots Academy for this honor.
